LONDON-BASED Tralee born International Soprano Miriam Murphy returns to her alma mater, Kerry School of Music tomorrow (Saturday) to give an intimate song recital accompanied by school Director Aidan O’ Carroll.

The 7.30pm performance will kick off the Fleischmann Studio’s Autumn recital series. Miriam, who has sung at Covent Garden and at opera houses throughout Europe and was winner of the World Wagner Prize, scored a major triumph in the Board Gáis Energy Theatre in 2013 for her portrayal of Isolde in Wide Open Opera’s production of Richard Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde.

Miriam is believed to be the first Irish soprano ever to sing this Olympian role. She has since been much in demand in Ireland with RTE, at the National Concert Hall and at venues throughout the country.

While in Tralee, Miriam will coach some very talented up and coming student singers of the Kerry School of Music Voice Department at High Street. Miriam’s programme will include songs by Schubert, Greig, Verdi, Moore, Balfe and Jerome Kern. Tickets at €15/€10 can be booked from 066 7120077.

Meanwhile the school will host their Killarney Open Day this Saturday from 10am to 1pm in Holy Cross Mercy Primary School on New Road.
