Zoe 1ANOTHER KFW is over, and I am equally relieved, delighted and a little sad.

The relief and delight stem from the fact that it was a hugely successful event with beautiful creations walking both on and off the runway. The sadness of course is a bit of a given because we all have to wait for next year for the excitement to be upon us once again.

For those of you who attended the festivities, what I am about to say will give you an insight into what went on behind all the glamour of the actual show itself; and for those who did not attend, it might just give you a million reasons to do so next year.

On the day that I am writing this article, it is in fact International Women’s Day, so the power and magnificence of women is on my mind. But, I have to say that what goes into the running and planning of an event such as this, is very equal.

The masterminds behind the event in it’s entirety are of course, Orla Diffily, and in the past few years, Paul Ruane. If I was to list everyone involved, we would be here until next years event.

Special shoutouts do of course have to go out to Noel Ryan, Lisa Dennehy, Liz Galway, Ray Stack, Andrea Kearns and all the other amazing people who go into the running of the show itself. But I can safely say that there are equal amounts of men and women, designers and organisers alike, that work on this event.

The reason I am reiterating this fact again and again is because many people think that fashion is a very one sided industry when, clearly, it is not. Now, that we can safely leave the question of gender or in fact sexuality out of it, let’s get down to the nitty gritty of the day itself.

I have spoken about a lot of this before, but it is important once again to state that it is not as easy as it may seem. When you walk in to the event, you may just be awed by the spectacular nature of it all and not consider what actually goes on behind all of it. Like who packed and placed all the goody bags, or who put those lights in that exact position, or even who tied the bow on the back of the model’s dress on the runway.

I think the phrase ‘it takes a village’ applies here.

Personally, I am on my feet all day. Literally all day. Because one of my main purposes on the day is making other people happy and making other people feel appreciated. In these situations, it is quite easy to get wrapped up in exactly what you have to do and where you need to be, but you have to remember that this day is just as important to someone else. And they definitely don’t need me to ruin it by going all ‘girl boss’ on them.

I genuinely don’t care who you are, or what your status is, or how many bloody instagram followers you have; I am still going to dedicate my time to everyone as equally as possible. Making someone else feel important is important.

Now that I think of it, that’s actually a pretty good life motto.

Now before, I bore you all with my random philosophical ramblings, or before I give away too many trade secrets, I better go. I will leave you all in anticipation for next week… Or in fact for next year…

Until next time,

Zoë
