OVER the past few years we have seen minimal improvements in the economy.

I know this because everyone is pretty focused on this fact. We are all waiting for things to get better so that we can start enjoying life again.

I know that money doesn’t bring you happiness, but you can’t deny that it makes things easier. So I guess we have all been waiting for it to get easier to be happy, and to enjoy ourselves.

Something interesting that I have discovered, is that the waiting may be over or that we may have been waiting for nothing. Because, enjoying life may be pretty simple after all.

I have spent the last six weeks working for a fashion magazine, and I have to say that there were a number of glitzy and glamorous affairs. I loved them all, I have to admit; but I also enjoyed the more simple things that I got to enjoy once my internship was over.

After being away from home (and from Kerry for so long) I finally got to reunite with some of my best friends and my mom when my job finished. The elation alone on seeing them is for sure one thing that can’t be bought.

We had quite the weekend – and even though the shopping was fun and the Starbucks was delicious, the simplicity of actually just having a good time with good people, completely trumps that. The same goes for my day trip with my mom. All we did was go for a little adventure into Howth, trek around some hills and pose for some snapchats – but it was one of the best days ever.

To me, this just proved that sometimes the moments that you don’t plan are the best ones. You don’t need a fortune and a nice holiday to make some pretty kick-ass memories. You just need to be with the people you love and you just need to make the effort to go out and do these things.

If you spend your whole life lusting after things that may be out of you budget or jealously gazing at someone else’s holiday snaps, then you are just going to keep on waiting for the supposedly ‘easy’ way to buy your happiness.

So you if have ever heard the phrase “a watched kettle never boils”, you need to bring that to a whole new level where you don’t just sit around and wait for things to get better; you do your best to make them better.

I’m not quite sure if that metaphor really applies there, but I figured that any metaphor involving the beloved cup of tea was a good enough start.

I guess what I am trying to say is, sometimes the smallest investments (including the investment of time) can have the most pay off. You don’t have to wait for anyone else to make it easier for you to be happy and enjoy life; pick up the reins yourself and just go for it.

Trust me when I say that it is the best thing you could do this Summer.
