Zoe O'Connor 1I GOTTA say, as a human being, I am conflicted.

I either set my mind on something, and will pursue that idea if it kills me or, more frequently, I am the most indecisive human being on the planet. It’s a coin toss on which one it is really.

In general terms though, I am a goal setter and I think I must have picked up this trait from my mom. At this point we all know that I keep a diary, and even though my mom never read them, if I kept them out, she would write something in it.

When she first started doing this, it absolutely terrified my OCD tendency self, but it was actually really sweet.

She used to turn down the bottom of some of the pages and write ‘wishes’ inside. Isn’t that just the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard? This of course – due to the general cuteness of it all, inspired me to always aim for something and always to write down my goals.

I think that a lot of us tend to shy away from our goals and aspirations in the fear that people will judge us for having dreams. In my humble opinion, there is no such thing as dreaming too big. Why would you aim for something that is easy to obtain? What’s the fun in that?

Perhaps the tendency to limit ourselves and underestimate our abilities stems from the fact that as kids we were laughed at when we said that we wanted to be princesses or ballerinas or astronauts.

I know that parents only laugh because they think that their kids will never reach their aspirations and that you need to be ‘realistic’.

I can’t talk for the realists because I’m a dreamer – I aim high and hope to continue to do so. Before you ask – no, it’s not a let down if you don’t reach those dreams; it’s just a constant drive to keep pushing on.

However if you set your dreams low in a hope to be seen as a responsible and realistic human being, and you don’t even get there – where will you be left?

So – I challenge you to get dreaming and write down those ‘wishes’ in the hope you obtaining them. It’s never too late to be a princess.

And perhaps with all this positive decision making I will finally be able to decide which ice-cream flavour to choose the next time I’m offered some.

Well, maybe everything isn’t achievable after all…

Forgive the title of the video which is an analogy: “Why Donald Trump Is Winning – Or Is He?” by Scott Adams and Stefan Molyneux – it’s a philosophical discussion about goals or success in life!
