Our teen columnist, Zoë O’Connor, was at Listowel Races Ladies Day on Friday and was impressed with what she saw…

LADIES day at Listowel Races was a huge success as always, but I decided to turn my focus away from all the beautifully dressed women and instead I focused on teen fashion.
I have been at Listowel Races for the past few years, but I have never seen so many teenagers on the course as this year. There was teenagers of all ages, but they all seemed to carry off a similar style.
The popular colours of the day, seemed to be white and turquoise, but no matter what colour they were wearing, they each sported a pair of what I call “skyscraper” heels. It just seems to be expected that everyone should wear heels, as I only saw a few people in flats.

Being a person who prefers comfortable shoes, I adored the girls who wore things like chelsea boots or even converse to funk up their outfits a bit.
It was mostly dresses on the course but I did see a few girls wearing jumpsuits or the like and they managed to look just as stylish.
What I particularly noticed about the day was that every single teenager made the most sincere effort to get dressed up for Ladies Day. Some of them even splashed out on getting their hair and make-up done, others did it themselves, but you could tell that it was with a careful hand.
Yet, even with all this time planning their outfits, applying their tan and carefully applying their makeup, they don’t seem to get enough recognition for it.
What I would love to see is teens getting picked for best dressed. Maybe even a best dressed teenager competition would be great for next year, because if teenagers make this much effort now, can you imagine what would happen next year?
I for one, would be happy to judge…
