Zoe’s World: The Real ‘F Word’

Zoe O'Connor 1YEARS ago, when referring to a women’s body shape, people never really knew what to say when a woman wasn’t stick-thin.

Unfortunately, this led to people being called Fat when they didn’t have the same figure as Kate Moss.

Which was totally, 100% wrong.

Women are all different shapes and sizes. This totally obvious statement has finally become acceptable for people after women finally began to stand up for themselves.

Now instead of being referred to as f*t for being regular-shaped women, they are called curvy.

Thankfully this has changed, I don’t think I could stand women with a chest and a butt being called f*t. People were calling Dita Von Teese fat. Yeah, that really happened.

Even though women have been liberated from the this awful “F” word, men have not been given the same liberties.

Men are expected to be the perfect weight. They are all expected to look like Zac Efron with a fit body to match. This is just as ridiculous as expecting women to have a thigh gap the size of jupiter and a flat stomach.

Men are given unrealistic goals regarding their bodies as well. Men are all different shapes and sizes as well. They may not be labelled as a “pear” or “hourglass’ shape, but they still have a specific shape to them.

All guys have different body structures. Some are smaller than others, some are taller than others. Some have a six pack, some do not have a six pack. We can’t expect them all to look the same, and we can’t expect them all to look like a young Johnny Depp.

When men do not have a great body the word “f*t” is thrown at them constantly.

When people think of the pressures that are put on people to look good, people turn straight to the women. And it is true that women are put under great pressure to look great, but the exact same pressure applies to men.

Men look in mirrors too you know and even though they may seem like they have the emotional range of a teaspoon, I can bet you that the pressure affects them too. They may not mention it and they may not even do anything about it, but it is there.

As shocking as it may seem, I am pretty sure that I know many men who actually care what they wear and who actually care what they look.

In the women’s world, women compete with each other all the time to see who looks better in that tight black dress.

Even though not as many eyes get scratched out in the man’s version, I would say that there is some sort of competition to see who looks better in a tux.

I just wanted to point out that there are a million and one differences between men and women, but the hurt that comes with being called fat is not one of them.

  1. As a fat man, I object to the word ‘fat’ being censored. That’s silly.
