Zoe’s World: It’s Worth Making The Effort To Socialise

Zoe 1I AM not an unsociable person. All teenagers are not unsociable.

Just because we tend to spend most of our lives on our headphones on, doesn’t mean that we don’t enjoy a bit of human interaction from time to time.

That doesn’t mean that you should continue to talk to us when we have our headphones in though. That’s still not okay mom.

I really enjoy meeting my friends in town and going places with them, but sometimes I really don’t want to go anywhere. I would rather make a date with Netflix than with humans.

Netflix doesn’t require me to look respectable. It doesn’t care what I am wearing or whether or not I have something on my face.

It doesn’t require any effort and sometimes you don’t want to have to put effort into anything. And that is totally understandable. A day under the covers is totally justifiable.

You don’t need the excuse of being sick to stay inside and stalk someone’s instagram instead of speaking to them in real life.

We all need those days where you don’t actually need to put any effort into it. But don’t let this kind of day convince you that human interaction is overrated.

I know that your favourite TV show can make you laugh and cry with equal measure, but does it know everything about you? Can it hug you? Can it dance all night with you? (I will actually be really scared if you say yes to any of these questions so let me just get back to my point)

Transition year has exposed me to a lot more social situations than I was used to in the past. This year has broken down all of the cliques that used to exist, so you tend to get invited to a lot more things.

I am usually on the fence about any social gathering that I am not 100% obliged to go too. A lot of this hesitation is due to my lack of ability to make decisions, but the other half of it is the effort required to go to any of these things.

I know that I say that transition year hasn’t taught me much academically, but it has taught me that the effort is worth it.

Those minutes we spend getting ready for any event will be worth a thousand more laughs and smiles than you could ever consider (unless you apply winged eyeliner, that is totally different…).

I know that sometimes going somewhere can seem like more effort than it is worth, but I promise that it will all be worth it in the end.

If nothing else happens, you might get a respectable instagram photo out of it and surely that will be worth it.
