NOVEMBER MASS OF REMEMBRANCE:  The deceased members & friends of Austin Stacks GAA Club will be remembered in the 10am Mass at our Our Lady & St. Brendan’s Church, Tralee on Sunday next November 14th.

All past & present members of the club – (Senior, Juvenile and Ladies club) & friends of the Rock are very welcome to attend.  This Mass will also be broadcast live on Radio Kerry and live-streamed on www.stbrendansparishtralee.net.

RACE NIGHT: Our hardworking Finance Committee is asking us all to join our fellow Rockies for the social event of the year at the Austin Stacks Gala Race Night on Friday, 26th November!

After nearly two years in hibernation, the great re-emergence of the Rockie faithful will take place in the clubhouse for what promises to be a wonderfully entertaining night of banter, betting and beverages!

Our 2021 Race Night is a hugely important fundraising event for Austin Stacks to help cover the costs of running the largest juvenile boys & girls club in Kerry, to finance pitch maintenance & upgrade works, and to support our Senior Men’s team for what we hope will be a long and prosperous winter campaign!

The Race Night highlights include ten races on multiple screens, special auction and legend races, €1,500 in cash prizes to be won, full bar and finger food and best dressed lady and gent competitions.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 0-14; South Kerry 0-6.

Played in dry conditions in Fitzgerald Stadium on Sunday afternoon(7th Nov) this 4th quarter final of the week-end ended as the previous three ended with a comfortable margin of eight points for the winners.

The opening two quarter finals the previous evening also ended with almost similar margins – Rahillys winning against Dingle with nine points to spare (2-16 to 0-13), St. Brendans defeating Legion with eight points to spare (1-17 to 1-9), similar to our win and Crokes having by far the biggest win of the week-end with nineteen points to spare over Templenoe (1-22 to 0-6).

With cautious build-ups we chalked up six points before the first water-break while holding the opposition scoreless.

Four of those points came from Darragh O’Brien, three of them from frees, with Shane O’Callaghan scoring the opening point from play in the second minute and Kieran Donaghy scoring from a mark in the 10th minute.

The second quarter then was evenly contested with both sides scoring three points each. Darragh O’Brien was again on target for us with two more points and our ninth point of the game coming in the 28thminute form play by Armin Heinrich. This left us six points clear at the break (0-9 to 0-3).

Twelve seconds had just elapsed in the second half when Michael O’Gara extended that lead with a good point from play from our opening attack.

However South Kerry dominated the next ten minutes scoring three unanswered points to reduce our lead to just four.

But that was as good as it got for the southerners as we held them scoreless for the remainder of the game while we added a further four points from four different players – Darragh O’Brien (free), Star from play and the last two from frees by Shane O’Callaghan and Seán Quilter.

A great display again by all 20 who took the field and good to see Brendan O’Sullivan back in action again after that injury he picked up in the Club Championship final. Also we all hope that Dylan Casey’s injury is not a  serious one and that he will be back in action again.

Finally well done to Darragh O’Brien who deservedly received the Celsius Menswear Man of the Match Award.

Team: Wayne Guthrie, Colin Griffin, Dylan Casey (Capt), Jack O’Shea, Paul O’Sullivan, Conor Jordan, Ronan Shanahan, Joseph O’Connor, Greg Horan, Michael O’Gara (0-1), Fiachna Mangan, Armin Heinrich (0-1), Darragh O’Brien (0-7 – five frees), Kieran Donaghy (0-2 – one mark), Shane O’Callaghan (0-2 – 0ne free).

Subs used: Barry Shanahan (46m), Brendan O’Sullivan (46m), Seán Quilter (48m) (0-1 free), Michael O’Donnell (48m), Adam Curran (51m).

And as we are on SF let us congratulate David Mannix and his current team, St. Judes, on their brilliant victory in last Saturday night’s Dublin SF Co. Championship semi final over Lucan Sarsfields by 1-18(21) to 3-5 (14), David playing at full-forward and scoring five points of his team’s total.

In the meantime we have drawn St. Brendans in the semi final which is scheduled to go ahead on the weekend after next. This will be our 6th Co. Championship meeting with the divisional side – the 1st was on 23rd August 1936 which we won and the last time we met was 20th June 2009 which we also won. We lost the three games in between.
JOHN BREEN: There was a nice surprise get-together in the Clubhouse on Saturday night to mark John Breen’s retirement from the Club’s Employment Scheme which John has been involved with for many years. Well done again John for the Trojan work you have done and, of course, it’s great to see you still continuing with such activities like the weekly Lotto.

FITNESS CLASSES: The Individual Pod Fitness Training sessions continues in the Clubhouse every Tuesday and Thursday evenings  from 7pm to 8pm. All are welcome. Contact Diane at 087 7940531for further information.

Kerins O Rahillys 2-16

Dingle 0-13

Kerins O’Rahillys made it  into the Garvey’s SuperValu County SFC semi-finals after this comprehensive victory over Dingle at  Austin Stack Park on Saturday evening last. Playing against the breeze in the opening half, the Strand Road men used their running game to great effect ,with Barry John Keane and Conor Hayes in sparkling form.

The Tralee side led by four points (0-5 to 0-1) at the first water break. Maybe things would have turned out differently if Paul Geaney had managed to beat Shane Foley after a penetrating run in the 21st minute, but O’Rahillys retained their advantage by the interval (0-8 to 0-4).

Then, with the elements in their favour on the resumption, and after Dingle had flown out of the traps with an unanswered four points to level the contest (0-8 each) by the 37th minute, William Harmon’s charges showed extremely admirable composure to absorb that opening second half comeback from their opponents, to emphatically deliver a clinical, and almost instant, decisive response.

Now was the time for the high, direct deliveries into the former Kerry inter-county star and, after a Walsh punched point and two from Jack Savage (one free) had stopped the Dingle comeback in its tracks, Kerins O’Rahillys struck for the killer blow in the 44th minute, and it was a textbook goal from the winners’ point of view.

After Savage had been fouled on the 45 metre line, David Moran’s arrowed free was superbly plucked out of the sky by the towering Tralee side’s full-forward, and when he quickly plied Hayes with a quick pass, the jinking attacker made no mistake with a right-foot low drive to the net.

Now ruling the roost, Walsh took a mark soon after, and kicked a point to have the westerners dead and buried at the final water break (1-12 to 0-8).

Even though they had showed great resilience to battle back from a six-point deficit in the first half, the was no way back for Dingle this time, especially after Billy O’Connor and Conor Geaney had squandered potential goal opportunities early in the fourth quarter, with Kerins O’Rahillys putting the icing on the cake in the 52nd minute when Keane’s brilliant assist was finished to the net by the hard-working Gavin O’Brien, comfortably rounding the losers’ keeper in the process.

O’Brien quickly added a point minutes after.

Dingle were never fully able to recover from the seventh minute loss of captain Mikey Geaney, who picked up a knee injury after a challenge from Jack Savage.

With Cormac Coffey, Darragh McElligott and Con Barrett leading the charge at the back, David Moran and Tom Hoare dominant at midfield, and messrs Keane, Hayes, Walsh, O’Brien and the Savages inventive and accurate up front, Kerins O’Rahillys showed that the cruise against St Kieran’s was no fluke.

We now advance to meet Dr Crokes in the semi final in two weeks time.

KERINS O’RAHILLYS: Shane Foley; Donagh Buckley, Ross O’Callaghan, Cormac Coffey; Darragh McElligott 0-1, Shane Brosnan, Con Barrett; David Moran 0-1, Tom Hoare; Gearoid Savage, Jack Savage 0-6 (4f), Gavin O’Brien 1-1; Barry John Keane 0-3, Tommy Walsh 0-2 (1m), Conor Hayes 1-2. Subs: Shane McElligott for G Savage (53 mins), Sean Walsh for Hayes (55 mins), Diarmuid O’Sullivan for O’Brien (57 mins), Jerome Daly for Barrett (59 mins)

Gardai Investigate Break-In And Theft At Milltown Business

.

GARDAI are appealing for information in relation to a break-in and theft at a business in Milltown last week.

On Tuesday, November 2, at 4.15am a burglary occurred at O’Neills Powertool Shop, Main Street, Milltown.

Four males in a dark-coloured Audi A3- three-door car, with off standard 19″ alloys and clear Lexus type of standard rear lights entered the town from the Killarney side.

Continued below…

.

All males were wearing work gloves, hoods and face coverings and using an iron bar, they smashed the front window of the shop.

Two males entered the shop and handed chain saws, hedgecutters, leaf blowers and consaws out to the two other males.

They then left in direction of Castlemaine. However, the boot of the car didn’t close properly and a chainsaw and a consaw were found on the road nearby.

There was a white Toyota car which came upon the Audi moments after the suspects escaped with the tools and gardai are anxious to speak to the driver who may have observed items falling out of the rear of the Audi A3.

The suspects stopped near Flynn’s Garage Castlemaine so they could close the boot, before driving off towards Firies/Farranfore.

North Kerry U21 Championship Semi-Final
Tralee Parnells 5—13 Ballyheigue 2-18 (AET)
It was a case of déjà vu in Caherslee last Sunday morning as Tralee Parnells U21s again needed extra time before emerging victorious, this time against a gallant Ballyheigue side in the North Kerry Championship Semi-Final.

With a scoring tour-de-force from full-forward Darragh Reen, who finished with 3-8, this was yet another never say die performance from the Parnells lads who having built up a commanding lead, ultimately had to come from behind to force extra time.
On a beautiful morning for hurling in front of a large crowd, including new Kerry Hurling Manager Stephen Molumphy, Ballyheigue opened the scoring with a free but that was the last time they led until injury time in normal time.

For the rest of the 1st half, Parnells took over. Darragh Reen opened his account with a point from play in the second minute and quickly followed this with a cracking goal. Ballyheigue replied with a point from play but from then to the water break it was all Parnells.

Another swift attack after 10 minutes from Parnells resulted in a second goal for the home side, this time from wing back Ruairi O’Sullivan. Luke Barrett opened his account with a long range free after 11 minutes and Reen scored a free of his own just before the water break, leaving the home side in front 2-3 to 0-2. The Parnells pressure continued after the water break with another Reen point from play followed by a great point by corner forward Cillian Litchfield.

Ballyheigue lifted the siege with a point from play but after 21 minutes, a scramble in the Ballyheigue goalmouth was finished to the net by Barry Lyons. From the puckout, Ballyheigue got their last point of the half.

Parnells had a number of chances to stretch their lead even further but were wasteful when it came to the final shot. Nevertheless, when referee John Hennessy blew his whistle for half time, Parnells had a 10 point lead. Half Time: Tralee Parnells 3-5 Ballyheigue 0-4.

With a number of players on the Kerry panel, Parnells knew that Ballyheigue weren’t going to lie down and sure enough they came flying out of the blocks and had registered 1-1 within the first 3 minutes of the second half. Two further points followed and the gap was down to 4 points.

Yet again, Darragh Reen who tormented the Ballyheigue defence all day, gave Parnells some breathing space with his second goal on 10 minutes. Ballyheigue replied with 2 further points and by the final water break, the gap was 5 points, Tralee Parnells 4-5 Ballyheigue 1-9.

Ballyheigue, driven on by Colin Walsh from midfield and Nathan Guerin in the corner, dominated the 3rd quarter. Two quick points were followed by another goal from a rebound, following a great save by Robin Porter in the Parnells goal.

The scores were now level and momentum was most definitely with the Ballyheigue lads. Parnells finally got their first point of the half after 25 minutes but Ballyheigue replied almost immediately. With 2 mins of normal time left, Reen converted a free to edge Parnells in front once again. Back came Ballyheigue with a point from play to level matters.

As Ballyheigue mounted one last attack some great defending looked to have lifted the siege, but a turnover resulted in a close-in free for Ballyheigue. Guerin made no mistake and Ballyheigue were back in front for only the second time in the match, but crucially with time almost up.

It was now Parnells who were seeking an equaliser and as they worked the ball up the pitch, they were awarded a free just inside their own half. Tadhg Brick, who was a colossus at full-back all day, was called forward and with unerring accuracy his long range free dropped over the bar to the delight of the home supporters.

Full time: Tralee Parnells 4-8 Ballyheigue 2-14.
For the second match in a row, extra time was needed. Parnells started better with Cathal Dunne scoring from play within seconds of the throw-in.

Darragh Reen had 2 points from play but Ballyheigue responded with 2 points of their own to leave Parnells ahead by the minimum at the end of the first half of extra time, Tralee Parnells 4-11 Ballyheigue 2-16.

With 10 minutes left, it was a case of who wanted it more. Ballyheigue struck first with the equaliser but then Parnells went on a scoring burst of 1-2 without reply, all from the lethal Darragh Reen.

With time almost up, Ballyheigue pushed forward but they registered just one more point as the defence held firm. As referee Hennessy blew the final whistle, Parnells celebrated a famous victory and a place in the North Kerry final vs Crotta. There were heroes all over the field.

Eddie Sheehy was rock-solid in the corner, with Daire Keane covering every blade of grass from midfield, Darragh Moloney fulfilling the role of utility player and Brian Lonergan an excellent target man for Parnells puck-outs.

The substitutes played their part as well, particularly Enda O’Connor, who, following his exploits with St Brendans footballers the previous evening, left nothing on the field as he ran himself to standstill.

Final Score: Tralee Parnells 5-13 Ballyheigue 2-18
Team: 1. Robin Porter 2. Eddie Sheehy 3. Tadhg Brick (0-1f) 4. Tadhg Reen 5. Ruairi O’Sullivan (1-0) 6. Luke Barrett (0-2f) 7. Luke Chester 8. Daire Nolan 9. Cathal Dunne (0-1) 10. Darragh Moloney 11. Barry Lyons (1-0) 12. Brian Lonergan 13. Niall Cassidy 14. Darragh Reen (3-8, 0-3f) 15. Cillian Litchfield (0-1)

Well done to the Mid Kerry U15 team who got a great win over North Kerry in Churchill Sunday morning after a fantastic contest in this rescheduled match.

The second half saw more goals and a great contest was to finish up with the win and a place in the County championship final for Mid Kerry the final score 3-16 to 1-16

Well done to the entire panel and all the Milltown Castlemaine players involved in the set up Dara Hogan, Cian O Brien, Tristan Jasinski  Damien O Connor, Liam O Dowd, Eoghan Bolger, Aaron Dinham and Gearoid Quirke and to Ian Twiss who is part of the management team

Coiste na nÓg News:

This Week in the Coiste na nÓg:

A big thanks to Garry Murphy and his U11 coaches for putting together such a fantastic tournament, the U11 Blitz to finish the year. Garry gave thanks to everyone after the games were finished on Sunday morning and the teams were all given trophy’s and medals

Garry paid thanks to the coaches, Covid supervisors and the parents for being such a huge support throughout the year and complimented the players on their exemplary behaviour and fantastic ability they showed throughout the year. With a special word also to Adam Scanlon, Linus Óg Burke and Sean Hogan who were available to the team all year to referee games whenever called upon

The players showed fantastic skill, spirit and ability in this mornings finals with one final going to extra time and the other final decided by a single point. Again Head Coach Garry Murphy paid tribute to the players saying he was lucky to be coach of such a great group.

The very first U10 side Garry coached a number of years ago was the side senior Player Cillian Burke playing in it. Garry congratulated Cillian on fantastic progress he had made as he handed the future stars their medals and it was very fitting to see both of his younger brothers contest an excellent final.

Thank you sincerely to everyone that helped out with the morning, once again as with all our teams there were a fantastic amount of volunteers making it all happen.

Currow 2-17

Ballymac 0-15

Currow were victorious in this North Kerry League game played at a sunny Currow .It was the Ballymac girls first outing since being crowned Junior C Champions and it showed with a slow first quarter start. Goals win games and Currow got 2 at vital times and that was the difference between the sides. It was a very open and entertaining game with high quality scores from both sides being a feature.

Next Sunday Ballymac are at home to Clounmacon/Moyvane at 12pm.

U16

North Kerry League Division 1 Final

Ballymacelligott v Castleisland Desmonds

03/11/21

Under lights and on a superb John Mitchels pitch, with a huge crowd supporting both sides, the oft delayed Final between the two unbeaten sides met in a winner takes all, do or die battle. The fastly improving Desmonds Ladies side were expected to give our ladies a big challenge. The Ballymacelligott ladies had won this competition at U12 and U14 age groups and were in no mood to relinquish this title. Castleisland played with a sweeper which gave them extra cover in their backline and over the first half helped to keep them in the game, but otherwise it affected their forwards ability to score as it mean’t that Ciara Kerins was able to sweep for us between full back and centre back. At the first water break despite having all the play, Ballymac were behind 0-2 to 1-0. This continued in the second quarter but at half time Ballymac were 1 point in front 1-7 to 2-0. However Ballymac were dominating the game and were were hit by two goals on the counter attack.

By the end of the third quarter, Ballymac had pushed the lead out to 5 points, leading by 2-8 to 3-0. The final quarter saw our ladies finally pull away to score 1-5 against 0-1 for Castleisland, which was the last score of an entertaining game. Squad was as follows, Kerry Hennessy, Alice Brosnan, Anna Collins, Laura Kelly, Ciara Kerins, Kate Collins (0-2), Rachel Griffin, Keelin Enright (1-0), Roisin Rahilly (0-5), Rachel Creedon (0-3), Sarah Scanlon, Ciara Palmer (0-2), Alexa Weiss, Jill Quirke, Aoibhinn Broderick (1-0), Emma Daly, Orla O’Connor (1-0), Ella Quirke (0-1).

Thanks to Sports Direct for the great sponsorship of this side over the last two years.

On a final note, congratulations to our players who have made Kerry Trials.

The AGM for the Ladies Club is fast approaching. The positions of PRO and Secretary are both available this year as our current officers are outgoing and are not eligible for re-election. Nominations for these positions should be sent to the Chairperson Sean Hennessy.

UNDER 7 BOYS & GIRLS
Our younger stars trained on a crisp and sunny morning indoors in the Ballyseedy complex.

Our older u7 group were divided up into groups and stations. Ball work and fitness sessions were the focus as each gave their all with robust enthusiasm. As the season nears its conclusion it’s great to see so many still eager to practise.

Following this our younger group trained with a mixture of fun games and ball skills. The coaches were given their homework for the week. Learning the rules of duck duck goose!! The session finished with a game of catch the coach. Well done all.

Best wishes to our injured coaches as they nurse themselves back to full fitness.

U8/U10 GIRLS
Another fantastic turn out at the U8s and U10 girls training session on Sunday morning in Ballyseedy. The winter sun was shining again, and the girls were eager to show they had been working hard on the core skills of Gaelic football over the past few weeks.

The session began with a brisk warm up and then it was time to focus on hand passing and communication skills. It’s great to see that the girls have formed in to a very tight group of friends and this is very visible in the way they interact with each other throughout the morning.

The session ended with a very competitive match and no quarter was asked or given. The quality of the football on show was a credit to each of the girls and the improvement since the start of the season is extraordinary.

Excellent performances from Caoimhe, Karolina, Natalia, Ally, Mikela, Emma, Siún , Ava and Millie who was returning after being out injured.

A WEEKEND of events from the National Circus Festival of Ireland came to a close on Sunday with a parade through the streets of Tralee.

Sunday shopping in town was interrupted by a sea of colour and waves of noise as the performers came up Castle Street and down Denny Street, led by artistic director, Con Horgan.

After a break due to COVID restrictions last year, the Festival returned and was hailed a great success by organisers with workshops, shows and public performances from Thursday to Sunday. Scroll down for photos…

Draw Is Made For Kerry SFC Semi-Finals

.
Gavin O’Brien of Kerins O’Rahillys in action against Dr Crokes back in October 2018. Photo by Dermot Crean

THE draw was made this morning for the Garveys Kerry Senior Football Championship semi-finals.

It sees Kerins O’Rahillys drawn against Dr Crokes while Austin Stacks will face off against St Brendan’s with the games played on the weekend of Saturday/Sunday November 20/21.

It’s unlikely to be a double header though, with games likely to take place on Saturday evening under lights in Tralee and a Sunday afternoon game at a venue to be decided. The decision on times and venues will be made on Wednesday.

Whatever happens, Tralee involvement in the final is guaranteed with either Stacks or St Brendans going through.
