This 46-week course is starting on the 12th of September 2022.

Past graduate Francesca Gerald said, “Having completed this course, I can say it has equipped me with the knowledge and skills required for working as a beauty therapist in the industry. It covered a comprehensive range of topics, which were clearly explained with a wide variety of resources that would be accessible for different learning styles.

Practical hands-on learning is a huge component, which brings our theory learnings to life.  I found the tutors extremely knowledgeable, approachable, and supportive.  I would recommend this course to anyone looking to broaden their horizons in the world of beauty therapy.”

Course teacher, Clair Horan stated; “There is a huge demand for qualified therapists with the additional option of self-employment.  Opportunities exist in the following areas: Beauty Salons, Health Farms/Leisure Centres, Cruise Liners/In-Flight Therapist, Make-up Artist, Make-up and Skin Care Consultant, Mobile Therapist, Salon Owner, Complementary Therapist, Technical Sales Representative, Franchising, Spa Industry and Teaching/Training and many more.”

Past graduate said, “As a former Beauty Therapy student with Kerry College, I got amazing tuition on the Traineeship course. I enjoyed learning all the practical elements and especially the Anatomy and Physiology from the excellent calibre of instructorship.  I had previously been to two other beauty/sports therapy colleges before that, where the learning was solely self-directed and not integrated into the practical elements of the course.

I am now delighted to be able to share my knowledge and experience as a therapist with 17 years working as a sports massage/holistic therapist and the last 10 years as a spa/beauty therapist and formally self-employed.

I ran a successful beauty and wellness business with two employees, who took over when I became a fulltime tutor.  I am enthusiastic about teaching and learning; it’s an excellent course, very rewarding and life changing.

Learners can take their qualifications anywhere in the world and work abroad as I did. You will not regret it. #lifelonglearning #loveKerry”

Record-Breaking June For Patients Waiting On Trolleys At UHK

.
INMO

THERE was a record number of patients waiting on trolleys in University Hospital Kerry in June.

There were 345 people waiting on trolleys at UHK last month, an increase of 295 on June 2021 when there were 50 patients on trolleys and up on the previous June record figure of 233 in 2019.

The monthly Trolleywatch figures compiled by the Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation shows that numbers of patients on trolleys in hospitals around the country was 9,961, making it the the worst June on record since the INMO began counting trolleys in 2006.

.

INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha said: “It has been a June like we have never seen in Irish hospitals with out-of-control hospital overcrowding coupled with rising COVID hospitalisations. In 16 years of counting trolleys, we’ve never seen June figures higher than the preceding January.

“Nurses are constantly raising the dangers associated with  overcrowding in their workplaces, however the figures for the month of June are out of control and a stark warning of what is to come for the autumn and winter period, considering none of the mitigation measures necessary are being implemented.”

“This level of overcrowding warrants senior HSE and government attention, it is not ok and it is not safe.”

THERE was a fantastic show of community support at Austin Stacks GAA Club on Thursday evening to join a local woman for the final leg of her 100k in June fundraiser.

Lauren Barrett is a member of the ladies club in Stacks and she took on the challenge in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland, ending up turning their Connolly Park headquarters pink on the night.

The 22 year old was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer in June 2021. She has had extensive treatment over the past year and thankfully is now cancer-free. Lauren was made an ambassador for Breast Cancer Ireland’s ‘100km in 30 Days’ to raise awareness and funds for the cause.

“Austin Stacks ladies club members have been doing the challenge as well as people I work with out in Horgan’s Centra in Ardfert, family and friends. I wasn’t by myself in this,” said Lauren.

Through her efforts and generous donations, Lauren has raised over €13,000 so far.

“I’m delighted, I didn’t think I would raise this much. The money will be put to good use for a cause close to my heart,” she added.

Her challenge brought the whole club together last night with men’s, ladies and juvenile club members joining Lauren and family for the final 1k run/walk around the grounds.

“She’s a very popular member of the ladies club and the Barrett family are very much loved and respected here,” said Club Chairperson Shane Lynch. “This was always going to be a big event, but her interview with Ray Darcy on the radio this week really struck a chord when she told her story,” he added.

There was a raffle for the signed Kerry jersey after the run and the winner was Canice Walsh.

Words of thanks were given by Lauren herself, by Melissa Maguire the Ladies Chairperson and by Shane Lynch. A presentation was also made to Lauren by the Austin Stacks Club of a signed pink top, flowers and crystal vase.

You can still donate to Lauren’s fundraiser by clicking on https://100kin30days.ie/fundraising/profile/LaurenBarrett2332 . Scroll down for photos…
