Kerry South U-16s travelled to Millstreet to take on West Cork on Saturday also and came away with a 2-10 to 0-06 victory. David Heasman was manager of the side with Dara Hogan and Aaron Dinham part of the squad.
Well done to all our club representatives. It is fantastic to see some of our club players progressing to play at the highest level for Kerry and similarly it is great to see our coaches pitting their wits against those from other counties.

After twenty years as Tralee Imperials, the decision was made at our AGM to change the club’s name to TRALEE MAGIC BC.
The Tralee Imperials name has been synonymous with girls basketball, and past success in both the National Cup and National League. In 2021 we welcomed boys to Imperials and the club continues to grow from strength to strength.
Members of our club have gone on to win the Superleague and National Cup with Tralee Warriors, represent the county and country in tournaments and includes recipients of college scholarships stateside.
The new name of Tralee Magi provides plenty of sponsorship opportunities which we rely on to support the running of a successful club.
We would like to thank everyone who has helped to build our club over the last twenty years and we are excited to move forward as Tralee Magic BC
– John Dowling, Chairperson
3×3
Tralee Magic BC had its first outing whereby we were represented in the Basketball Ireland 3×3 event in Limerick. Anna Chute, Ciara Costello and Sophie Mitchell were runners up to Cobh in the U14 girl’s competition. They were coached by Jason Mitchell. Well done on a great performance.
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
Ireland U16 Men were in action recently in Luxembourg at the Dussman Trophy. They played three games, with a win over hosts Luxembourg, a 6-point loss to Portugal and a 13-point loss to tournament winners, Romania. The town of Tralee was well represented on the team, with Joshua Osayanrhion powerful under the boards and Tralee Magic player Tomas Kennedy impressing, averaging 8 points a game. Following on from the tournament Ireland U16 men’s head coach Pat Price named Joshua and Tomas on his final 12 for the Fiba European Championships in August. Congratulations to Tomas who has also been nominated as vice-captain. Tralee’s representation doesn’t stop on the court, with our very own Jimmy Diggins part of the coaching staff.
Ireland U18 Men have completed their preparations for the FIBA U18 Men’s European Championship. The team were in Portugal playing games against the host nation and Switzerland. Tralee Magic player Aivaras Uosis has been named on Paul Kelleher’s squad that have travelled to Romania and you can follow the links on our social media channels to watch the games live.
Ireland U20 Men were in Georgia at the FIBA U20 Men’s European Championship. Rap Buivydas and Tralee Magic’s Leeroy Odiahi were part of the team. The team had some incredible performances winning 5 out of their 6 gams finishing up in an overall position of 9th. They were a very exciting team to watch and no doubt have very bright futures.

A LOCAL cafe is hosting a special exhibition/sale of art this week as a fundraiser for local group Inspired.
Maree O’Connor, whose daughter Labhaoise is part of the Inspired group, has 10 paintings hanging on the walls of The Daily Grind cafe on The Mall and a number have already been sold. All the paintings will be on display until after the weekend and are on sale for just €50 each.
A native of Carlow, Maree has been an artist for many years and held an exhibition of her work in Kildare many years ago, before she got married to husband Donal.

“After I had children, I didn’t have time to paint but I’ve started again over the past few years. It’s great to get back into it and do this for charity,” said Maree.
The exhibition is called ‘Reflections On Abundance’ and many of the works are inspired by the Kerry landscape and coastline.
The exhibition was launched on Tuesday by members of the Inspired group. Inspired is a community project for young adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) based at Brandon Court, Tralee.
Participants attend Inspired 5 days a week to pursue a dedicated person-centred programme aimed at developing their continued education, employability and community participation.
Maree thanked Terry O’Connell of The Daily Grind for facilitating the exhibition. You can call into the cafe over the next few days and let staff know if you would like to buy any painting.
THE celebrations are continuing in the Kingdom following Kerry’s victory over Galway at the weekend.
Last night Sam Maguire was back in Tralee on the Street of Champions where the Kerry team and management enjoyed the generous hospitality of the folks at Kirby’s Brogue Inn.
The Brogue is synonymous with supporting Kerry GAA over the years, first with the late Bill Kirby and that has continued under his daughter Fiona and her husband Kevin Cotter.
Continued below…
The Brogue is also, of course, the main sponsor Austin Stacks GAA Club which is home to the captain of the Kerry team, Joe O’Connor.
After Joe and his teammates had a bite to eat and a well-earned drink, they got back on the bus to be led by hundreds of supporters up the Rock to the Stacks’ Connolly Park headquarters where there was a special reception for the team.
Another memorable night then and next for the team it’s on the Kenmare to the home of Sean O’Shea and Stephen O’Brien. Scroll down for photos…
THERE’S one day to go until a festival of free entertainment featuring well known music artists begins in Milltown.
Féile Lughnasadh will feature live music over four nights, featuring the best acts in the trad business, including Sharon Shannon, Jiggy, Killarney band The Rising, as well as local talent in the festival club and in the local bars.
Kids events include a Thursday night parade and storytelling and games in the Square on Sunday. Young musicians will be welcome to perform in the festival club also.
Continued below…
All the main acts play live at 9pm on the gig rig in the Square. Another popular favourite in Milltown is the outdoor Céili, always a great spectacle and reaches back to the days of crossroads dances.
Uí Bhriain are a huge draw for dancers and Féile Lughnasadh will be no exception, with a full programme of events on Sunday including the Food and Craft Fair, kids’ events and the Street Entertainment Competition which will all create a wonderful atmosphere in Milltown.

Second and final week of Tralee Boxing Club Summer Camp 2022 kicked off this week.
The camp, in conjunction with TBC’s Building Friendship and Strength, One Punch at a Time project which is funded by the CIF, has provided a wonderful space for kids of all backgrounds to box, play and take part in team activities together. Boxing has never been so inclusive and so much fun.
Not only is our club blessed with some wonderful young boxers, we also have a chance to see how creative, co-operative, positive and joyful they all are.
Some of the highlights of last week were without doubt, the big team build off, where 3 groups competed against each other to build the most impressive project out of cardboard, the Rocky Balboa Obstacle course, and finally soak the coach.
Apologies to the town of Tralee if there’s water shortages during the weekend, the kids are fully intent on getting their sweet revenge on us all at the end of the camp.
A hundred thousand thanks are owed to all the fabulous volunteers, coaches and organisers of camp.
We also owe thanks to EF signs and the Brand geeks for helping us out during the week. Our team is without doubt our most valuable asset, without the brilliant attitude, drive and generosity of all volunteers, Tralee Boxing Club, and our community, as a whole, would certainly be a lot less brighter. You are all champions!!!
On that note, there is an opening for a new member on our team as a boxing coach, available from September.
No experience necessary, training and documentation will be provided. The position is paid as part of a CE scheme and consists of 19.5hrs per week. Please contact Pat on 086 194 2824 or Lynda on 087 766 3406 for more details or to apply for the position.
Finding it too warm in the evenings to train? Coach Shamey has kicked off a new early morning boxing session.
Shake off the cobwebs and get your sweat on before the morning rush, you’re guaranteed to be full of energy for the day ahead. Class starts at 7am sharp on Friday mornings and is approx. 1hr long, priced at €7 only, or free if you pay for the week.
Our popular ladies only class is continuing for the summer. Class is fitness focused, and non contact, but we provide plenty of bag work and rounds in the ring on pads with the coach so that our boxers have space to develop their strength and confidence in a friendly, motivational environment.
No experience necessary, ladies only is suitable for all levels of fitness. Training gear, a towel and water is all that’s needed to participate. Class costs just €7 and takes place Sunday evening, from 4:00-5:15 pm, strictly girls and ladies only.
