The signing of the official Memorandum of Understanding between both parties commits Kerry and Newfoundland to a joint approach in seeking UNESCO Heritage Status, but also to a wider cultural and economic cooperation in support of community development.

Speaking at the event, Cllr John Francis Flynn stated that; “Our aim is to safeguard this global heritage for the posterity of mankind but our hope and expectation is that it will unlock other investment opportunities both private and state.   We want to maximise the economic and social opportunities that this will provide for Valentia and South Kerry.  I am sure the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will want to achieve similar goals for Hearts Content and its environs.”

“I hope that this will the first of many official exchanges between Newfoundland and County Kerry, your community in Heart’s Content and ours in Valentia.  I understand that a vital element of a joint or trans-national World Heritage application is a close working relationship between the two parties.  You can be assured of our full commitment to the process and wider co-operation in other areas too –  on the community, economic, tourism and social fronts.” Scroll down for photos…

Austin Stacks GAA Juvenile Club News

.

THE ALL-STARS: Great football and fun again last Sunday at 11am at the Austin Stack Club in Connolly Park. Our youngsters are getting great enjoyment out of the sessions.

Everybody welcome, of course…fáilte roimh chách chuig an ngrúpa diagnóisbhunaithe seo….éinne a bhfuil diagnóis aige/aici. If interested in our Sunday morning session just come along or ask for information from Sarah (087-281 0239) or Sandra (087-294 6658).

PEIL FAOI 7 (born 2015/16/17): Our U7s played v St Pats with the usual Rock pride and passion last weekend and what brilliant football they played! The Reds of St Pats and the Black‘n’Ambers of The Street of Champions played outstanding football.

More great football will be played next Sunday in Connolly Park where we’ll welcome and challenge the boys from Killorglin, Laune Rangers,.

PEIL FAOI 9: More action ahead for our Under 9s! Peil, peil agus peil! (i) The Bracker ‘Regan Cup games continue on Thursday (22nd) and will continue for several weeks. (iii) We’ll play v Churchill on Sunday next (September 25th)….good fast-flowing skilful football expected!

(ii) Our much-looked-forward-to trip to the St Finbarr Club in Togher, Cork, is now pencilled in for October 15th. Let’s be prepared, boys! Work on your skills, eat healthily, early to bed and…agus bígí ullamh!

PEIL FAOI 11: (i) The Rock U11s played v Na Gaeil last Thursday (15th) in Connolly Park in the final round of the Central Region Board’s Go Games. Good entertaining football was played!

(ii) On Saturday we travelled about 120km to Glanmire in Cork to participate in that club’s annual Michael O’Leary Tournament in which 12 teams from Cork, Kerry, Waterford and Dublin took part. A feast of Gaelic football was witnessed. Our U11 stalwarts did us proud! They had a great outing. Great players in this group! Well done, boys! Well done, mentors!

PEIL FAOI 13: Central League Division 1B final….Austin Stack Club (Team Amber): 3-4 (13); John Mitchel Club B: 2-14 (20). Team Amber came agonisingly close in this epic final encounter with the John Mitchel Club U13s in Connolly Park on Sunday evening last (18th).

Once again, a strong start was made in the 1st half by Team Amber with an early Jack Delaney goal which was quickly followed up with a Matthew Guerin point. Our boys went on to dominate the opening quarter but, once again, were unable to reflect this superiority on the scoreboard.

Na Mistéalaigh got into the game, however, and some well-taken points had them in the lead midway through the half. Nathan O’Connor struck for another brilliant Rock goal and a fine pointed free from David Ahern left honours even at half-time….2-2 to 0-8.

The 2ndhalf followed a similar pattern to the 1st. Noah Reidy finished a lovely flowing team move to the net to give Team Amber an early three point advantage but the John Mitchel lads stayed in touch with great point-taking.

At the other end of the pitch, despite expertly working some good opportunities, Lady Luck deserted Team Amber at crucial moments. The Mitchel Club garsúns finally stole in behind the stalwart Rock defence for their first goal but, then, a couple of fine points from Karol Kowalczyk and Noah Reidy left only the bare minimum between the sides as we entered the home straight.

Rock stalwarts were giving their all! Hearts were throbbing with excitement on pitch and on sideline! Bhí an cluiche idir dhá cheann na meá! Team Amber had chances but, faraor, didn’t make hay when the sun shone!

Unfortunately for the Black‘n’Amber brigade, it was the Green‘n’Gold gang that struck the match-winning goal with time running out. As Team Amber threw the proverbial kitchen sink at the Bóthar Buí boys in an all-out effort to attack, to score and to rescue the game, the Mistéalaigh again exploited the space at the back to tack on a few points and to put a gloss on their final score.

Man-of-the-Match: Seán McCannon’s outstanding performance in goal was exceptional with fine saves, commanding clearances and excellent distribution with his kick outs. Ardfhear, a Sheáin!

The Team Amber of 30 boys can take great credit for all their efforts this year. They’re a good group of great Gaelic players…sárpheileadóirí gan aon agó! They have improved and grown individually and as a team and, although this was a tough defeat to take, they should be proud of their heroic efforts and learn from this experience. ‘Well done’ to imreoirí, bainisteoirí agus tuismitheoirí!

Congratulations to Na Mistéalaigh who are worthy champions and who gave another exhibition of point-taking. Thanks to the referee for his handling of the game.

Team Amber: Seán McCannon, Ediart Topali, Oisín Cotter, Diarmuid Hennessy, Conor Murphy, Liam Swords, Alex Dafoor, Karol Kowalczyk, David Ahern, Noah Reidy, Oran O’Donoghue, Kyle Yoxall, Jack Delaney, Nathan Hurley, Séamus Keenan, Nathan O’Connor, Luke O’Connor, Mark Foley, Conor Hanafin, Ewan Canty, Matthew Guerin, Killian Coffey, Albi Gaxha, Tadhg Somers, Jack Walsh, Joe O’Halloran, Alex O’Flaherty, Jayden O’Dowd, Gearóid Corcoran, Eliot Calleja.

PEIL FAOI 15: (i) Kelliher’s Garage Central Region U15 (Division 1A) final….Laune Rangers: 0-12; The Rock: 2-11. (ii) |The Kelliher’s Garage Central Region U15 (Division 5) final….The Rock: 1-7; B/mac: 9-12.

PEIL FAOI 17: ‘Well done’ to our mighty minors who have won the 1st club championship ever! They defeated Keel/Listry. Team: Michael Tansley; Seán Moynihan, Colm de Brún, James Fisher; Pádraig Ó hAllmharáin, Luke Ó Cathasaigh (captaen), Seán Heaslip; Daniel Ó Ciarba, Ben Murphy; Thomas Deregee, Ronan Carroll, Ryan O’Driscoll; Aaron Nolan, Paddy Lane, Damien Hogan; Noah Townsend, Jack Ó Murchú, David Lucid, Donnacha Horgan, Gavin Ó Cathasaigh.

The juvenile section of the club and the Rock crowd at last Saturday’s senior game were overjoyed to hear the good result and to see the team parade in their beloved Connolly Park.

This is really a great victory! History has been made! Éacht agus mórghaise, a leaideanna óga na Carraige! Well done to players and managers

Sponsored: Meet The Fabulous Pharmacist Laura Dowling At CH Tralee

.

THE Fabulous Pharmacist, Laura Dowling, is coming to CH Tralee to mark the launch of Laura’s new supplement range Fabü Wellness.

Join them to celebrate at 6:30pm on Wednesday, September 28, for a live Q&A with Laura Dowling where she will delve into the world of vitamins and supplements.

You’ll be able to discover and shop Fabü Wellness range, participate in the live Q&A and get a chance to ask Laura Dowling all your supplement questions. Tickets are €10 and redeemable against purchase on the night. There will also be giveaways and spot prizes on the day.

FabÜ, is a unique new range of nutritional supplements that simplifies the search and merges the power of nature with the precision of science.

Formulated and developed by the winner of the prestigious 2022 Pharmacist of the Year Award, Laura Dowling, fabÜ’s scientifically targeted supplement formulations take the guessing game out of the endless list of supplements available on the market today.

The result is a product range combining just six to eight powerful key ingredients tailored specifically to your wellbeing needs.

Thanks to Laura’s incredible fascination with the wonderful powers of plants, herbs and mushrooms from across the world, fabÜ demonstrates perfectly how nature and science can work seamlessly together in absolute harmony.

Having witnessed a large volume of pharmacy customers, overwhelmed by the number of supplements on the market today, and after years of fielding questions from her now 55k+ Instagram followers as the @fabulouspharmacist, Laura wanted to simplify and improve the supplement offering.

“So many people are confused by the vast amount of generic ‘one size fits all’ nutritional supplements available,” she said. “Many of those supplements do not necessarily target their specific needs. You do not need to take the product with the most ingredients or every ingredient. Often you just need a tailored product that meets a specific need and plugs that gap in your diet or lifestyle”.

“This is why fabÜ is so special – high quality, minimal ingredients brought together using pharmacognosy (the study of plants, herbs and mushrooms), demonstrating how nature and science can be tailored to work together in harmony.”

Tralee Boxing Club News

.

FIRST sparring session of the new season got underway last Tuesday in Tralee Boxing Club with boxers coming from Sunnyside BC in Cork and Ballyduff ABC to test their fitness in the ring here in Tralee.

The clubs were preparing novice boxers for the John Mahon Tournament in Limerick last weekend as well as knocking the ring rust off of some of their more experienced boxers in preparation for the new season.

TBC was delighted with the turnout and the quality of boxing displayed by boxers of all levels. We would like to congratulate all the young boxers on their bravery and heart for getting into the ring and hope they all learned well from their experience.

The coaches and committee would also like to extend our thanks to Tony and the crew in Ballyduff, and Ted and all from Sunnyside for facilitating a great night for the kids. You are always welcome in Tralee lads and ladies.

.

On a less positive note, TBC was saddened to hear that our neighbouring club from Ballybunion, Cashen  Vale BC are fighting for their survival without a home this season.

The club has been a huge part of the Kerry Boxing scene, and has produced numerous Munster and National Champions.

Cashen Vale amongst other clubs, have a long history of teaching the value of hard work and discipline to the young people of North Kerry and helping them to develop their fitness and self confidence through the sport.

We wish Paddy and all the lads the best of luck in finding a home and hopefully being able to continue on their great work with the kids of Kerry.

.

Finally we would like to congratulate all of our 3 young boxers who competed in the John Mahon Tournament in Limerick over the weekend.

TBC could not be prouder of each and every one of them for stepping up to compete. Thanks to Kerry County Council community support fund, the competing boxers were provided with all the necessary equipment and gear needed to train for and compete on behalf of the club.

Jayden Mc Grath Hennessy faced a tough old rival in former Tralee Boxing Club boxer and current Munster champion Patrick Mc Carthy. Jayden put on his best performance to date against Paddy but was unsuccessful in the first match of the final day of the tournament.

Joe Moriarty was next into the ring for TBC in his first ever competitive bout. Joe got off to a fantastic start dropping his more experienced opponent at the end of the first round.

Unfortunately inexperience and a little bad luck meant that Joe was unable to capitalise on his first round success and narrowly lost on a decision. Joe came away with a silver medal and the utmost respect of all officials, boxers and spectators watching that incredibly close match.

.

Last up representing TBC was Dmitrii Domrachev Jr. Dmitrii faced a very strong opponent who refused to take a step backwards throughout the fight.

After a scrappy start, Dima began to take control of the fight using his jab and forcing his opponent to  come to the attention of the referee for constantly dropping his head.

A tough fight for both young men, Dima edged the win and a gold medal in his first performance with Tralee Boxing Club.
