IS Saturday the new ‘Friday’ at Listowel Races?
There’s a good case to be made for it considering the crowds at the Island for the final day of the Listowel Harvest Festival of racing.
While admittedly there were more punters on the Friday for Ladies Day, yesterday saw a huge surge in attendance on Saturdays in previous years with a real local feel as north Kerry came out in force to enjoy the fun in the sunshine on another fabulous day in Listowel.

They came in style too as the Sustainable Style fashion competition organised by Listowel Tidy Towns and An Taisce, drew a number of entrants.
Model Sydney Sargent and Elaine Doyle from An Taisce were the judges of the competition and they chose Andrea Thornton from Lixnaw and Sean O’Donoghue as the winners, who each received €300 in cash, sponsored by Listowel Race Company and Mc Carthy Brokers Listowel, for their efforts.
Andrea got her headpiece from ‘Second time around’ in Listowel; her cameo brooch was a “something blue’ gift from a friend for her wedding and her mint lace and tulle prom 1950’s dress was from Georges Arcade in Dublin.
Sean’s very dapper blue and black suit was vintage and he has worn it many times over the years.

First runner up in the women’s category was Amy Griffin from Limerick who wore her own vintage brand “and Again” and first runner up in the mens was David Silles.
Each received a bumper hamper kindly sponsored and presented by Oonagh of Brodericks Pharmacy. All 10 finalists received gifts sponsored by the business of Listowel town.
It’s been a fantastic week at Listowel Races and great credit is due to all involved in making the festival another wonderful success. Scroll down for photos…
