ANNUAL CHURCH GATE COLLECTION: Thanks to everybody who contributed so generously to our Annual Church Gate Collection last week-end, despite the inclement weather. And a special thanks to Ger O’Shea, the co-proprietor of The New Yorkers Diner at 5 Bridge St. whose contribution of €50 was by far the biggest single contribution of the week-end. Ger and his family are residents in the heart of the Rock and Ger himself has participated in our Strictly Come Dancing competitions in the past. Thanks Ger again for that splendid donation.

The club AGM was held on Friday evening at Kerins ORahillys clubhouse. The senior officers reported on their activities during the year while a summary of the reports of the other officers was read out.
The various reports highlighted many activities during the clubs 10th anniversary year. It was interesting to note that it was a year for a number of firsts for the club.
The U15s earned the first All-Ireland medals for the club as Division 3 Feile naGaeil champions, the first North Kerry U21 Championship win, the first adult silverware in winning the South Kerry Championship as well as winning the first Scór na nÓg County title.
It was noted that the recent opening of Ball Wall at Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn where Parnells will have access after school hours will be invaluable to the club in 2023.
The Chairperson confirmed that Parnells have been granted a license to use the pitch at the Sports Complex. While some work remains to be done the pitch should be available for our academy players for 2023. The pitch will be known as Parc na Darach.
During the year the club Lotto was successfully launched and now takes place every two weeks. We also launched our club website https://traleeparnells.gaa.ie where visitors on the web can find out everything about the club.

Mitchels 3-9
Na Gaeil 1-2
Scorers for Mitchels:
Darragh Cunnane 2-3 (C)
Bobby Byrne 0-1 (C)
Sean Corkery 0-1
Rory Clifford 0-1
Ted Fitzgerald 0-1
Cody Sullivan 1 -0
Paddy McMahon 0-1
Monday was not an evening for the purists in Mitchels as the driving wind and rain made life very difficult for both sets of players.
Mitchels with a strong breeze in the first half made the most of it kicking some fine scores including a beauty from Ted Fitz and one from joint captain Bobby Byrne from distance. Darragh Cunnane made the most of a wayward kick out and with the keeper off his line he finished superbly to the net from 40’yards out. Rory Clifford carrying plenty of ball was always a threat.
Na Gaeil showed some good fight however we started to get to grips in midfield with half time on the horizon and we went in 2-8 to 1-1
Second half started along the same lines with our midfield showing great form creating the platform for our attacks.
Cody Sullivan volleyed a great goal after a superb run and a selfless pass across goal from Darragh. Na Gaeil showed great determination and took the fight to us, but our backs proved very strong with Ben solid in goals and Brian and Cillian O’Donnell strong in the tackle and Sean Whelan, in particular, reading the game superbly and sweeping up loads of ball to stop any attacks that came our way.
Thanks to Gary for refing and to Na Gaeil for a great game of football in absolutely terrible conditions it was an achievement that this game was played at all
Player of the game was Darragh Cunnane, strong in his scoring, distribution and overall play
Joint Captains Bobby and Darragh spoke very highly of Na Gaeil and thanked everyone for their contributions during the year
Nice way to sign off boys and well done to the boys and mentors Sean, Cian, Peter, Colin, Stephen and Joe

Review of our U7s season: Training started early in the new year. We were delighted to welcome back great numbers to the Kerry Sports Academy every Sunday. We focused on skills development, concentrating on kicking and catching.
We practiced these skills using drills and games with a big emphasis on having fun! The children were delighted to put these skills into practice when we moved outdoors in March.
The children were eager to display their skills in mini games and enjoyed playing against each other. We had our first blitz against Ardfert in May and we were delighted to bring along 6 teams on the day.
Thankfully we kept our attendance high during the summer holidays and we had some cracking blitzes both at home and away to Churchill, John Mitchels, Keel, St. Pats, Austin Stacks and Kerins O Rahillys.
The future of Na Gaeil football is bright! Some stand-out moments this year for our u7s were: marching in the St. Patrick’s Day parade, providing a guard of honour to the Men’s Senior Team at their last home game of the season and welcoming Sam Maguire back to Killeen after an extended period away! We would like to thank our dedicated coaches and parents for helping out on a weekly basis. Na Gaeil Abú.

Thank you for your time and encouragement Michelle! We are delighted to have so many enjoying running and getting fitter despite the winter weather!! Many of you are now hoping to continue that fitness with weekly running meet ups.
Thanks so much to Tralee Park Run for welcoming us to this fantastic free event. Many of us were first timers & are delighted to have this facility to keep us motivated!
The rain didn’t stop the running enthusiasm but unfortunately curtailed the saturated runners going for well- earned treats afterwards!
After the hot showers you should all be very proud of yourselves and hopefully inspired to continue healthy habits whatever the weather!! We looked forward to our Healthy clubs Operation Transformation walking series in January. All welcome!

Ladies news
U17 District Championship
St Kieran’s 5-09
Mid Kerry 0-13
Congratulations to Ballymac girls Kerry Hennesey, Ciara Kerins, Sarah Scanlon, Clodagh Coffey, Roisin Rahilly Capt., Keelin Enright, Kate Collins and Ella Quirke who all had significant contributions in ensuring St Kieran’s got over the line today v Mid Kerry.
Mid Kerry got off to a flyer and were the better side by far for 1st 20mins and led 8pts to 1 at that stage but a very strong last 10mins by the Kieran’s girls ensured they led 2-4 to 0-8.
First 10mins of 2nd half St Kieran’s upped the intensity and a further 2-2 pretty much settled the contest.
3rd county title in 2022 for the afore mentioned girls as they add this to the U17A win and Junior B championship.

NÓTAÍ NA mBAN
Hard to believe that it’s been two years…
Everyone who had the privilege of knowing Marie Nix was heartbroken when she passed away on November 20th, 2020 and so many of us still are.
Marie , a gentle, softly spoken lady was one of a kind. We all still have wonderful memories of Marie over the years with the juveniles and in particular the U8/10 girls. As a passionate “Blue” Marie played a huge role in getting so many girls playing in Strand Road to levels we have never seen before. We now have girls teams from U6s up to seniors.
They were all “my girls” and she treated them like her own.
Marie has two Co. Championship medals with Stacks but John converted her from the black and amber over to the Blues . Marie became a full on “Blue” and was fully immersed in our club.
It’s many the bus trip we had away to blitzes in Kerry and outside the county, always a great bonding session. These are the days that the girls will remember for the rest of their lives.
Our annual trip to Passage West was always something to look forward to and we visited Douglas and many more spots in Cork.
Often on the way home we would stop off for a bite to eat. It’s many a time after a game that Marie would open up the boot of her car and out would come the 7Up and goodies. We remember too celebrating birthdays and Marie would bring a cake and candles.
We all remember the Christmas Fair in the club a few years ago. Marie was in the foyer greeting everyone with her warm smile and friendly presence as they entered.
She offered everyone beautiful mince pies ,chocolate and mulled wine (non alcoholic of course) as she welcomed them. Marie had the foyer beautifully decorated and there was a fantastic atmosphere in the clubhouse that day.
We always had great craic during our preloved clothes sales.
In April 2019, our U10 Girls were invited to a blitz in Croke Park. Marie met us there and enjoyed watching the girls play on the hallowed turf.
Our ladies first big day out was a “Mystery Tour” organised by Marie. We went to the Climbing Wall in Dingle followed by lunch in Dingle town and then headed back further west to the beach where the girls had great fun kicking ball and paddling.
After a year as manager of the U12 Girls Marie was all set to return to the U8/10 girls but unfortunately within weeks her diagnosis was made.
Despite Marie’s illness she always came to watch Stephen and Katie’s games, a proud Mom! An avid supporter, Marie came to most club games even when her own children weren’t playing.
It is because of Marie’s influence that our U16, U17 and U18 Ladies are the wonderful players and team that they are today. She was a coaching Mom who truly brought out the best in each one, inspired confidence and so many have gone on to play at a higher level.
Karon McLysaght, Adrian Doody, Danny Leane, Paddy Hayes, Rory Kerins and Shirley Doody all worked with Marie and were inspired by her .
Marie had a smile that would always light up a room and was just a wonderful, wonderful person.
We could write forever about Marie, her wonderful ways, her kindness, her positive attitude always, her great nature and the fun we all had!
We are especially thinking of John, Stephen, Katie, Marie’s Dad Anthony, her brothers Ger and John, the extended Nix and Slattery families and Marie’s friends at this time.
Those of us who worked with Marie will cherish the great memories of the time we all had together. It isn’t too many people you get to know in life like Marie. We all have so many great memories . We will treasure these forever. We are so lucky to have known Marie. You truly are missed .
Our dear Marie…Always, you will be remembered and never forgotten!
U12 GIRLS
We were looking for the coolest place to have fun for our end of year…
And so decided on a way to also bring on the festive season….Ice skating in Fota followed by a trip to Mahon Point for a little retail therapy – Sunday, December 11th!
With Christmas music and a wonderful atmosphere, this will be a fun team day out for these young ladies.
Nestled in the grounds of Fota House , Arboretum & Gardens and opposite Fota Wildlife we are looking forward to seeing the girls enjoy their day out.
The festive season will have begun, shops and streets will be transformed with lights and decorations and it should be a fantastic day out.

The incident is believed to have taken place between the night of Thursday, November 17 and the morning of Friday, November 18. Any witnesses are asked to contact Tralee Garda Station on 066-7102300.

GARDAI are appealing to the public for information relating to a collision outside a school last week.
Last Monday, November 14, at about 2.20pm, a woman was collecting her grandson outside Scoil Eoin, Balloonagh.

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors 85
Emporium Cork Basketball 95
Garvey’s Tralee Warriors hopes of making the Super League playoffs were dealt another blow on Saturday night with their third home defeat of the season, this time to Emporium Cork Basketball, by 95-85 at the Tralee Sports Complex.
With seven games played and just two wins to their name the Warriors now face a daunting challenge to make the top four playoff places in the South Conference. They currently sit alongside local rivals Flexachem KCYMS two wins behind UCC Demons, the team currently occupying fourth place on the South Conference table.
Having seen the Warriors U20s overcome their Ballincollig counterparts earlier in the evening the Senior Warriors settled into the contest well with Daniel Jokubaitis opening up in typical style to hit to three point efforts, but Emporium hit back with two major scores from John Dawson when Ronan O’Sullivan and Jose Jiminez Gonzales got on the scoresheet the visitors led 14-10.

Back to back scores from O’Sullivan and a floated effort from Pau Cami Galera moved the Cork side further ahead but a double from Dre Jackson and free throws from Andrée Michelsson saw the Warriors cut the advantage to 20-18 at the end of the first.
John Dawson was in range early in the second but scores from inside and out from Eoin Quigley saw the Warriors lead for the first time in the game.
However Emporium Cork then quickly spread the game with major scores from Keelan Cairns, Dawson and Ciaran O’Sullivan either side of threes from Fergal O’Sullvan and Jokubaitis. Dylan Corkery then hit a hat trick of inside efforts and when Sean O’Flynn fired in a three with his first touch of the ball the Ballincollig side took full control of the game.
Two drives to the board late on from Dre Jackson kept the score respectable but at half time the visitors led 46-35.

The Warriors reduced the deficit early in the third through Jokic and Jackson but Emporium Cork countered every score with one of their own and a three from Cairns and inside scores from Dawson, Corkery and Gonzales maintained their 11 point lead.
Quigley and Jokic kept the Tralee side in the game with a score apiece but a zero from four return from the free throw line stopped any Warriors momentum while Emporium Cork at the other end were finding scores when they wanted them with Ronan O’Sullivan, Gonzales and Dawson combining to increase the visitors advantage to 68-52 at the end of the third.
The Warriors continued to chase the game early in the fourth and despite Jackson, Kieran Donaghy and Jokic chipping away at the lead Adrian O’Sullivan and Gonzales replied with threes to remain in control.
Jokubaitis and Quigley kept the Warriors faint hopes alive with outside scores but Emporium Cork quickly countered them through Ciaran O’Sullivan and Galera. Jackson and Jokubaitis cut the gap back to 10 but with the Warriors in team fouls Emporium Cork hit 7 from 10 from the free throw line to consolidate their lead.
Another quality cameo from James Fernane with two cracking three late on was a highlight for the Warriors on an otherwise very disappointing night as they surrendered another priceless three League points by 95-85 in the end.
Scorers: Garvey’s Tralee Warriors: Dre Jackson 25, Daniel Jokubaitis 20, Eoin Quigley 13
Emporium Cork Basketball: John Dawson 21, Ronan O’Sullivan 15, Jose Jiminez Gonzales 15 who was also named the McCarthy Insurance MVP for the game.
• Next up for the Warriors is an even tougher home tie against the South Conference leaders University of Galway Maree as the challenge to make the playoffs continues in earnest. Tip off at the Tralee Sports Complex next Saturday night is at 7.30pm.

In addition, Kerry Education and Training Board has received approval to proceed to the next stage in developing a College of The Future (COTF) in Killarney.
The project proposed involves overhauling an existing factory site, including the existing on-site buildings and transforming it into a state-of-the-art campus.
The intention is to transform the existing site into a state-of-the-art campus to develop a Centre of Excellence in Hospitality Training, a Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Green Technologies and a Regional Centre of Excellence for Lifelong Learning.
Welcoming the announcement, Minister for Education and Kerry TD Norma Foley said: “These are two significant developments furthering the development of education in County Kerry. I want to thank my Cabinet colleague Minister Harris who has engaged with me in securing these projects and also acknowledge the vision and input of both Kerry ETB and the MTU. By advancing these ambitious projects we will ensure that the technological and further education and training sectors in Kerry have access to state of the art facilities that will drive economic growth and social development, expand digital teaching and learning facilities and create and expand key centres of excellence.”
A SIX-year old Golden Retriever Marcel who lives in Tralee with volunteer puppy raisers Anne and Gerard O’Riordan, has been announced as overall winner of the Irish Kennel Club Golden Paw Hero Dog Award 2022 at the awards ceremony in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin Airport.
Marcel is an Ambassador Dog for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind who was trained by Anne and Gerard from 8 weeks until 14 months.
During his training to become a Guide Dog, Marcel developed body sensitivity which means Marcel can’t tolerate a harness on his back. This meant that Marcel had to be repurposed and was assigned to Anne and Gerard as Kerry’s first Ambassador Dog.

As an Ambassador Dog, Marcel visits nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and many fundraising events. Marcel assists in many one-on-one therapy sessions.
These include visits to specific patients in hospital, at the request of their doctor, to comfort parents and children. Marcel is also included in therapy sessions with vulnerable children and adults, where Marcel will encourage and calm the patient.
Marcel is much-loved in the community. He senses when people are upset and will indicate that somebody requires his time and support.
During lockdown Marcel spent a lot of time with friends of IGDB Tralee Branch. Marcel provided them with companionship and a warm heart to lift their spirits during this lonely and stressful time.
Marcel visited the local hospital, where he spent days just being himself, giving the staff hugs and companionship to alleviate some of the stress they were experiencing. (all done under strict Covid compliance.)
Anne and Gerard continue to puppy raise, and are currently raising their eighth puppy, Feena. Marcel plays a vital role in this, as puppies will learn from him, imitating his good behaviour.
And on his best behaviour he certainly was on last Friday’s Late Late Show, with many viewers instantly falling in love with him when he made an appearance.
