Status Yellow Wind Warning Until Thursday Evening

.

THE weather has been absolutely dreadful over the past week and it’s going to continue for the rest of today according the Met Eireann.

A Status Yellow Wind warning for Kerry ended at 11am this morning but now another one will come into effect from 2pm to 6pm today.

Met Éireann says there will be very strong and gusty southwest to west winds this afternoon with wave overtopping possible on coasts.

Those winds will be accompanied by heavy showers later this afternoon and evening, but the good news is, after a few morning showers, Friday looks like a dry sunny day albeit with temperatures not rising above 10ºc.

It’s a bit early to make solid predictions, but Saturday looks like a showery day with slightly milder temperatures and Sunday a mixture of sunshine and showers.

A SIGHT that brings festive cheer to all approaching the town at Christmas time returned last night, as the Christmas lights were switched on at Ballygarry Estate.

The amazing 40ft Christmas tree on the grounds, close to the roundabout, is a fitting welcome to Tralee which is famous for its Christmas lights every year.

Padraig McGillicuddy and his staff at the hotel pulled out all the stops with their tasteful lights display all over the grounds and on Wednesday evening they welcomed valued clients to help them kick off the festive season.

They enjoyed seasonal refreshments in the Pavilion, with Santa making an appearance for the little ones. The children’s names were put into a hat and Zach Shanahan’s name was drawn out to give him the honour of pressing the ‘red button’ to switch on the tree.

Well done to Ballygarry for providing a wonderful festive welcome for visitors at the gateway to our town which will be officially lit up for Christmas this Saturday at 5pm in The Square. Scroll down for photos…

KERRY Education and Training Board has launched a new ethos framework locally across their 11 Schools in Kerry.

Kerry ETB is one of 16 ETBs taking part in the national launch this week. Kerry ETB schools are state, co-educational, multi-denominational schools underpinned by the core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community and respect.

The ETBI Patrons’ Framework on Ethos, developed by Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) and the Centre for Evaluation, Quality and Inspection at Dublin City University (DCU), will support all Kerry ETB schools in living out their ethos. For more on the framework, click here.

The framework applies to the three Community National Schools and eight Post-Primary schools in Kerry under the patronage of Kerry ETB.

Speaking at the national launch held in Naas launch, Ann O’Dwyer, Director of Schools Youth and Music at Kerry ETB, said; “We welcome the launch of the ETBI Patrons’ Framework on Ethos, which will unite our schools through Kerry with our school communities across the wider ETB network, and ensure that we achieve the highest standard of education for all our students in an inclusive environment.

“This framework recognises our shared values under the ETB umbrella and acknowledges the standards of good practice our schools already embody. It will also allow us to reflect on areas with potential for improved or new practices within our school community.”

An Ethos Coordinator has been appointed in each of the ETB schools. These coordinators will be involved in the implementation and further development of the framework.

Speaking about the impact of the Ethos Framework, Kerry ETB’s Ethos Coordinator, Pat O’Sullivan, stated; “This Framework is the culmination of ten years of extensive national consultation, research and visionary policymaking. It articulates for the first time what it means to be an ETB school. Today is a historic day for the ETB school community.”
