THE team at Manor West Hotel Leisure Club are launching five Sports Scholarships for competitive athletes.
The Sport Scholarships are for those involved in sport from across multiple disciplines, in either team or individual categories any sport participant is applicable once you are over 18 years of age.
The Sports Scholarship includes Full Gym Membership to the Manor West Hotel Leisure Centre. The leisure club has a state of the art sports performance room, cardio fitness gym and our zero gravity fitness studio which has recently been remodelled for high intensity training classes.

The Leisure Club also features an 18-metre pool with two lanes, underwater loungers, swan jets, Jacuzzi, Steam Room, Sauna and Therapy Pool.

KERRY FC has announced the signing of centre-back Kalen Spillane to the squad ahead of the SSE Airtricity First Division season.
Kalen, who is 31, is from Carrigaline in County Cork and has a wide range of experience in the game. Having played with his local side Carrigaline United underage, Spillane made the move to Cork City at the age of 18 and played 5 seasons in the League of Ireland with the Rebel Army.
From Cork City, Kalen moved to Sligo Rovers where he tasted UEFA Europa League football, playing 4 games in all at European level.

A move down under to Australia was on the cards for the tall centre back and he played for St Kildas before moving back to his home in Cork where in recent years he has been playing Munster Senior League for Avondale United and Carrigaline United.
Speaking on his signing for Kerry FC, Kalen Spillane said; “First of all, I’m delighted to be back in the League of Ireland and to represent Kerry Football Club is an honour for both myself and my family. I’m looking forward to the journey ahead this season and I am eager to get going on February 17th. I want to repay the club and the manager for the faith they have shown in me.”
First-Team Manager Billy Dennehy said; “Kalen is a player I’ve been aware of since my time at Cork City in the League of Ireland. He’s been out of League of Ireland football for a few years but always had the attributes to play at this level. When Kerry FC’s involvement in the league was announced, Kalen was one of the first players who showed great interest and desire to be a part of this project.”
“Even with work and family commitments, he showed a great attitude and commitment to travelling down for training and has fitted in really well with the group. He has blended in really well with all the players. I’m sure we will see all of Kalen’s attributes as the season goes on.”
THERE was a rise in new car sales in Kerry last month compared to January 2022, according to the latest statistics from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
There were 624 new car registrations in the county in January compared to 558 in the same month in 2022, a rise of 11.83%.
Nationally, there were 27,363 new car sales last month, while in 2022 there were 25,014, an increase of 9.39%.

Toyota and Hyundai were the joint most popular make of car in Kerry in January with 96 units sold each, with the rest of the Top 5 made up of Skoda (63), Kia (58) and Peugeot (57).
The Hyundai Tucson was the most popular model with 48 units sold, with the Toyota Yaris Cross (27), Toyota Yaris (26), Hyundai Kona (21) and Kia Sportage (18) making up the top five.
Petrol cars overtook diesel as the most popular engine type with 212 units sold (up 28% on Jan 2022) while 174 diesel engine cars were sold (up 4%).
Next is 119 petrol/electric hybrid vehicles sold, exactly the same as January 2022, 68 Electric vehicles (+38%); 31 petrol/plug-in electric hybrid (-16%) and 20 diesel electric hybrid (+54%). No petrol/gas cars were sold compared to eight in January 2022.
CARA Credit Union held The Noreen Lynch Annual Schools Quiz on Sunday last in the Kerry Sports Academy.
However, they were not alone as 25,000 primary school children all over Ireland tested their brain power at their annual Credit Union Schools Quiz.
The questions compiled nationally by primary school teachers covered such general topics as geography, history, music, literature and sport.

Cara Credit Union were delighted to host 64 teams from 33 primary schools throughout Tralee, Castleisland, Killorglin, Ballyduff, Causeway and surrounding areas as 256 children battled it out in a nerve-wracking competition.
The theme of the 2023 Credit Union School Quiz was ‘Get your Brain in Gear’ and indeed they did, with almost near perfect scoring rounds.
The aim of the Credit Union School Quiz is to encourage local children to work together and see what they are capable of achieving as part of a team.
Speaking about the quiz Pa Laide, CEO of Cara Credit Union said; “We were delighted with the support from all the schools who battled it out for the fun filled action packed two hours. With the talent in the room it’s obvious that the future is in safe hands. Our thanks to all the schools, students and their families and of course to the Cara Credit Union’s team for making this event one of the biggest events on the school calendar.”

In the Under 11 age category, the winners had to be decided by a tie-breaker with Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn coming out on top, 2nd place went to Castlegregory National School and in 3rd place Spa National School.
In the Under 13 age category, Listellick secured first place with another tie-breaker to decide on 2nd and 3rd places. After a nail-biting round Scartaglen came in 2nd, very closely followed by Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn in 3rd place.
