Registration 2023

Now that some of our teams have resumed training and others will be resuming shortly players and coaches, please register your membership of the Club for 2023.

One of the benefits of registering as a playing member of the GAA or LGFA via the Club is that in the event of an injury sustained playing or training resulting in medical expenses it may be possible to claim a level of refund from the GAA or LGFA Injury Benefit Fund.

However any player seeking to benefit from the Injury Benefit Fund must be a registered member of the GAA or LGFA on Foireann at the time of injury

The respective Injury Benefit Funds are self-funded entirely from the GAA and LGFA funds with no outside involvement.

The Injury Funds are not an insurance scheme. The Injury Funds are set up to assist members with some reimbursement for medical expenses incurred due to an injury sustained playing Gaelic football.

The respective Injury Benefit Funds do not seek to compensate fully for injuries sustained but to supplement other Schemes such as Personal Accident or Health Insurance.

The GAA and LGFA Schemes only provide cover for unrecoverable losses up to the limits specified under the respective Schemes. More details can be viewed onhttps://learning.gaa.ie/InjuryFund or https://ladiesgaelic.ie/resources/injury-fund/

Visual Media Exhibition As Part Of Kerry Civil War Conference At Siamsa

.
A Civil War Conference will take place at Siamsa Tíre in Tralee next month as part of the programme of events for a three-day conference on the conflict in the county and beyond which is part of the 2023 Decade of Centenaries Programme. A VISUAL media exhibition based on original documents and accounts from the people who were affected by the Civil War in Kerry will form part of a forthcoming conference on the conflict which takes places at Siamsa Tíre later this month.

‘Mise, le Meas’ is an innovative collaboration between visual media students from MTU Kerry Campus and Kerry College and presents a series of creative interpretations of the events of the Civil War in the county as well as the stories many combatants and survivors.

The exhibition follows months of research and preparation by students of the BA (Hons) in Animation, Visual Effects and Motion Design at the Munster Technological University, alongside learners of the Digital Design and Visual Communication Programme in Kerry College.

.

The large format and small-scale works, both printed and digital, are based on the lives of local individuals. Included are well-known local figures such as Stephen Fuller, the sole survivor of the Ballyseedy and Private Joseph O’Brien, who was seriously injured in the trip-mine explosion at Knocknagoshel.

There is also a particular emphasis on the inclusion of women and their experience of the Civil War.

Pictured at the MTU Kerry were Katrin Hermanski , Tristin Carroll and Mieke Steinbeck. Photo By : Domnick Walsh © Eye Focus LTD

The stories of Cumann na mBan members, Elizabeth Dunne and Mollie O’Shea are explored, with a graphic novel format illustrating the story of the Power sisters from Tralee. The creative format promises to be of interest to a wide audience and of particular interest to local schools.

‘The students have created inspiring and diverse visual responses to Civil War narratives, focusing on original documentation and poignant letters sent and received during this tumultuous and formative period in Irish history,’ said MTU lecturer, Lisa McElligott.

The project, which is funded by the Student Transitions Fund at MTU Kerry Campus, will be opened by the Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD next week and will run at the Siamsa Tíre Gallery from 17 February to 1 March. Admission to the exhibition is free.

One of the co-organisers of the Kerry Civil War Conference, Bridget McAuliffe, said that Mise, le Meas will greatly complement the conference talks and discussions and will introduce key themes of the conference in a very creative way to a wide audience.

‘We are excited to be collaborating with the students who have really embraced the project. Their unique personal interpretations of the stories of some of the ordinary people of Kerry who were so impacted by the war are both thought-provoking and inspiring. They offer a very new and engaging way in which to examine the war and its legacy in Kerry,’ she said.

The Kerry Civil War Conference, which takes place on 23, 24 and 25 February, forms part of the Decade of Centenaries Programme for 2023 and is supported by Kerry County Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media. THE Ballyroe Heights Hotel was the setting for a great celebration on Saturday night as Causeway GAA Club marked a wonderful 2022.

Around 160 of the club faithful were present for a night of fine food, entertainment and the business of awards for the achievements of the past year.

Club PRO, Fiona Flynn, said it was a great occasion for all involved in Causeway GAA to get together to celebrate a momentous year.

“We’ve a great crowd here. Medals for the county champions will be presented, we’re also acknowledging the 40th anniversary of out four in a row championship winning team, as well as a Hall of Fame award for Maurice Leahy.

“Maurice has done marvellous work for the club over the years. He is a great ambassador for Causeway GAA. The advice, coaching and commitment to the club has been invaluable and he is a worthy recipient of the award,” said Fiona.

Awards were also presented to members of the club involved in MTU’s Ryan Cup victory, namely players Joe Diggins and Dan O’Mahony, manager Tadhg Flynn and games development officer Eamon Fitzgerald.

Guests enjoyed a great meal followed by the awards ceremony, while Heart and Soul provided the music on a fantastic night for Causeway GAA. Scroll down for photos…

PHOTOS: Austin Stacks Faithful Gather For Supporters Night At Clubhouse

.

IT might not have been a vintage year for Austin Stacks GAA, but there was still much to celebrate for the great club in the Rock.

They were well represented on the All-Ireland winning panel, including captain Joe O’Connor, while Aoife Dillane played for the Kerry Ladies and Darragh Long was joint coach in their League winning season and journey to the All-Ireland final.

This was all celebrated at a supporters night held at the clubhouse on Saturday, where the aforementioned were presented with a memento to mark their achievements.

.

The night was also an occasion to introduce new senior team head coach Billy Lee and a launch of sorts for what lies ahead in 2023.

“It’s well documented that 2022 was a tough year for us in the black and amber — less so in the green and gold it has to be said,” club chairman Shane Lynch told us.

“It’s a big challenge for us this year. We’re at intermediate level and it’s our top priority to get back to senior level. We know it’s a very tough championship — only one team (Kilcummin) has managed to bounce back to senior level at the first attempt in the past 20 years — so we’re under no illusions about the challenge that lies ahead.

“But there’s great optimism here. We have some injuries at the moment and we there’s eight players involved with Kerry teams, but that’s a great opportunity for our young guys coming through. The club has been very united since that dark day against Kenmare.”

“We’re part of St Brendans in the championship later on this year and we should have some players involved there, so we’ll be competitive in that too,” said Shane.

Knowing the club that Austin Stacks is, we can expect them to bounce back fairly quickly! Scroll down for photos…

Garvey’s Tralee Warriors negotiated their way past Flexachem KCYMS to keep their hopes of claiming the fourth and final playoff place alive in a highly entertaining local derby encounter at a packed Killorglin Sports Complex on Saturday night.

Buoyed by the result from Cork the previous night where final playoff place rivals EnergyWise Ireland Neptune were edged out by UCC Demons in a thrilling 93-91 Leeside derby, the Warriors now are in full control of their Super League destiny.

They sit just one win behind Neptune with the prospect of a final League game showdown in Tralee now looking more likely than ever.

In a cracking opening quarter the sides went all out on offence with Daniel Jokubaitis launching the first three of the night and Dre Jackson and Matija Jokic combining the Warriors took the early initiative. However the hosts weathered the early volley and Axels Skaistlauks, Pharoah Gordon, Liam Croke and Jani Griffith replied to edge Killorglin ahead.

Jokubaitis and Gordon exchanged major scores before former Neptune star Aleix Tarradellas cut loose with a hat trick of threes either side of trademark effort from Fergal O’Sullivan and after a frantic opening quarter the hosts led 26-23.

The Warriors asserted early in the second and Eoin Quigley and Rich Dunham had the visitors back in front before scores from Kelly and Skaistlauks drew the sides level.

The shooting from distance became infectious with Liam Croke hitting his second three of the night but Fergal O’Sullivan wound up for another cracking effort from outside and backed that up to land the score of the night from beyond the arc.

Killorglin then took their chance to lift the home crowd with major scores from Kelly and Skaistlauks. Despite Quigley and Jokubaitis cutting the gap to a single point, a late double from RJ Kelly gave the hosts a very healthy 47-42 lead at the long break.

As they did in Ballincollig last week, the Warriors catapulted out of the traps in the third quarter to turn around a five-point deficit and build a nine-point lead midway through the quarter.

The scores simply rained down with three threes from Jokubaitis either side of a three and an inside double from Dre Jackson and suddenly the Warriors led 58-49.

The hosts were rocked by the onslaught but scores from Gordon, Griffith and Skaistlauks kept the gap to single figures.

Matija Jokic then opened up to land four scores either side of a Quigley floated effort but Killorglin found the space and time to allow Kelly and Gordon to fire in from outside to cut the Warriors three quarter time lead to 68-60 and keep the game alive.

The outstanding Tarradellas caught sight of the basket twice more from distance early in the fourth and when Gordon also added another major the Warriors lead was wiped out.

Jackson lit up to restore the Warriors advantage from either side of the arc and when Fergal O’Sullivan hit his fourth three of the night the gap was back out to ten.

Tarradellas continued to torment the Warriors rear-guard with another couple of scores either side of the arc either side of an RJ Kelly drive but Jokic capped a quality display from the Warriors with a stunning three from the top of the arc to put the contest to bed.

The hosts were in foul trouble late on and Jackson and Jokubaitis cemented the win from the free throw line and secured the 90-78 win in the end.
