PEIL FAOI 13: The U13 A and B teams served up feasts of fantastic football, one before and the other after the Senior County League fixture, in Connolly Park on Sunday last (4th). Both teams have now progressed to their respective county finals which will take place over the next couple of weeks. Good news of great joy that speaks volumes on our coaches and players! Training will take place on Tuesday and on Thursday.
Match Reports:

(i) U13 Division 13 County League semi-final….AdeS B: 4-11; Kilcummin B: 1-6. On Sunday morning last in Connolly Park and in sweltering heat our B braves got off to a blistering start with early goals from Eliot Calleja and Tom Dawson against a fancied Cill Choimín team. Tús maith leath na hoibre!

The only thing that surpassed the level of teamwork that this team showed was the incredible work rate throughout the field. Despite the heat every single man determinedly tackled, chased and dispossessed repeatedly.

They worked together, sought out the right pass when we had possession and worked defensively throughout the field as a Rock rocklike unit! This team has shown tremendous attitude since their very first game and everyone attending games can see improvements in all aspects of play.

It is difficult to pick out individuals in a game when such quality is displayed but our full-back line of Séamus Keenan, Conor Maguire and Conor Hannifin were immense. Gearóid Corcoran at wing-forward showed tremendous hunger for possession throughout the game, repeatedly winning kick outs, constantly setting up scores and cheekily popping over his own few daring points.

Our captain, Tom Dawson, together with Luke Kavanagh and Joe O’Halloran, consistently provided timely assists and fine scores throughout the game and our energetic midfielders, despite the Sahara-like heat, covered an incredible amount of ground.

All our substitutes added to our play with Albi Gaxha chipping in for a goal and three points….a good day’s work! All these young men show such pride in their Black‘n’Amber geansaís!

Today they displayed all that is good about Gaelic football. We now look forward with great excitement and deep pride to a county final and if we continue to show the same desire and application we will have every chance of lifting the trophy. Na Rockies Abú!

(ii) U13 County League Division 2 semi-final….AdeS A: 2-8; Lios Tuathail A: 1-8. On a balmy evening in Connolly Park, our U13 A stalwarts had to dig deep to overcome a resilient Listowel team and ultimately to progress to craobhchluiche an chontae.

The opening quarter set the theme for the evening….our stalwarts were enjoying most of the play but were unable to translate their possession into scoreboard speech while Listowel were dangerously threatening on the break!

However, a Rock rocket-like goal in the second quarter put a chink of daylight between the teams resulting in four points being between the teams ag an sos. Ach, tar éis an tsosa, Listowel got off to a lightening start with an early goal; scores were again at a premium and only the bare minimum was between the teams.

The decisive score came midway through the second half when Na Stacaigh skilfully snuck in for their second goal and restored their four point advantage.

The Black‘n’Ambers had opportunities to put the result beyond doubt but, mar a tharla, there were a few very nervous moments in all Rock hearts as the visitors got close, on a few occasions, to grabbing a draw and securing victory for the home side. Faoiseamh (relief)! Sástacht (satisfaction)!

Thanks to club na Féile for a keen encounter and thanks to the referee for his handling of the game. ‘Well done’ to all the Austin Stack Club boys who richly deserve their shot at County League honours.

Foireann A na Carraige: David Ahern; Michael Carmody, Kian Cronin, Oisín Horan; Shea Horan, Luke Kavanagh, Billy Kirby; Karol Kowalczyk, Danny Lane; Tadhg Lucey, Dylan McEvoy, Conor Murphy; Jayden O’Dowd, Ryan O’Flaherty, Tadhg O’Regan; Noah Reidy, Mark Riordan, Liam Swords, Ediart Topali, Diarmuid Hennessy, Conor Maguire, Blake Bowler, Harry Maguire. (Dan Ahern)

PEIL FAOI 15: Congratulations to our U15B team that won Division 9 of the County League on Wednesday 24th. In light of this and other important commitments we took the training sessions a bit easier this week as our lads were facing into an important game/final as well as their state exams and school tests! (We wish the very best of luck to all our boys who are and/or will be sitting important exams at this time).

Training will continue during the summer period…so, boys, keep an eye out for messages from the coaches. Victorious team v Legion: Conor O’Regan; Jamie Ó Cathasaigh (captaen), Fionn Cotter, Tadhg Sommers; Oran O’Donoghue, Eoin Mangan, Joe de Barra; David Hobbert, Harry Murphy; Dean Courtney; Michael Cotter, Denis Brassil; Jay Sweeney, Barry Laide, Ryan O’Carroll. Subs: Kyle Yoxall, Seán McCannon, Oisín Cotter, Nathan O’Connor, Nathan Hurley, Eoghan Murphy, Vinny Moriarty, Ewan Canty, Alex Dafoor. A night of celebration…oíche mhór cheiliúrtha…will be held for the team in the near future. (Ger Hobbert)

PLAQUE: A plaque in memory of Dr Thomas Croke (1824 – 1902), first Patron of the GAA, may be seen on the wall of Hogan’s Paint Shop in The Square.

Thomas Croke spent some time, as a young boy, with his relatives in that house. (Interestingly and sadly, as 1st Patron of the GAA, he didn’t live long enough to present the All-Ireland Cup to a winning Kerry senior football team….fuair sé bás roimh 1903!)

CLUB LOTTO: Thanks to all who support and/or promote our club lotto. Mórbhuíochas le Kevin Barry’s Shop, Commane’s Bookshop (PC Books), O’Flynn Interiors and Kirby’s Brogue Inn….all i Sráid na Carraige, Hussey’s Deli i gCé an Phrionsa and The Burger Shack in Móin a’Bhealaigh.

CIARRAÍ: (i) Comghairdeachas le Ben Ó Murchú (3), Dónal Ó Ciarba (9), Pádraig Ó Laighin (15), Rónán Ó Cearúil (21), (Ryan Ó Drisceoil, Seán Óg Ó Brosnacháin), le mionúir Chiarraí agus, gan dabht, lena mBainisteoir, Wayne Quillinan, ar a mbua iontach ar mhionúir Chorcaí.
(ii) Comghairdeachas le Dylan Ó Cathasaigh, (Greg Horan, Jack Ó Sé) agus le foireann shinsearach Chiarraí ar a mbua ar Chorcaigh.

Credit Union County Senior Football League: Division 1, Round 8 Result
Milltown/Castlemaine 3-10 (19)
Ballymacelligott 3-13 (22)

Venue: Ballymacelligott

Referee: Fergus Clifford (Listry)

Hard luck to our Senior side and management who narrowly lost out on Sunday afternoon to Ballymac in Round 8 of the Credit Union County Senior Football League.
Ballymac had a dominant first half and led 2-8 to 0-6 at the half time interval with the goals coming from Aidan Breen (Penalty) and Daire Keane.

Eanna O’Connor kept the scoreboard ticking over at the other end for us along with Jonathan O’Sullivan but the momentum was very much with the home side whose direct running was causing huge issues for Milltown/Castlemaine

The second half was a much different story as our lads showed massive courage to battle their way back into the contest.

Three goals including two from the penalty spot by Cathal Moriarty and a point attempt which dropped into the net from Eanna O’Connor saw us take the lead as we headed for injury time in the 2nd half but a late goal from Ballymac deep into stoppage time saw them run out three point winners. A tough defeat for our lads after their second half efforts but plenty of learnings to be taken ahead of next weekend’s fixture.

Credit Union County Senior Football League: Division 6, Round 8 Result
Milltown/Castlemaine ‘B’ 2-07 (13)
Beaufort ‘B’ 3-12 (21)

Hard luck to our Junior side last Wednesday evening who went down against Beaufort at a sun soaked Paddy Burke Memorial Park in Milltown.

In what was our lads second outing in a matter of days, the visitors lined out the stronger of the two sides this evening and had a 1-7 to 0-3 lead built up by the half time interval with the aid of the breeze. Our three points scorers were Linus Óg Burke, Donal Kelliher and Anthony Barrett.

A strong start to the second half which saw the away side bag two further goals and a couple of points had them 3-11 to 0-4 ahead by the 45th minute, Donal Kelliher grabbing our only point of the half at that juncture.

Credit to our lads however who never dropped the heads and two goals from Jeremiah Hayes and Donal Kelliher in the final quarter aligned with pointed efforts from Liam Roche and Jeremiah Hayes saw us cut the deficit in half the full time whistle as we ended up going down by eight points.

The girls played some fantastic football
Special thanks to Castleisland Desmonds for hosting us and for all the families who travelled to cheer on the players.
It was the girls first time having their very own set of jerseys to wear.
Sincere thanks to our own club for supplying the jerseys . The team and management are looking forward to more matches over the coming weeks and months.

U13 Boys: County League Results
Well done to our U13 Green and White teams who welcomed near neighbours Laune Rangers and Killarney side Dr. Crokes to the Paddy Burke Memorial Park in Milltown on Sunday evening for the County League. Both sides came away with brilliant victories to continue their good form so far in the competition and qualify for their respective finals next week.
The Green side had a 5-11 to 1-07 win in Division 3 of the County League against Laune Rangers to make it 4 wins from 4 games. Great performances all over the field and a well deserved result for the players and management who are putting in sterling work on the training field weekly.
The White side, not to be outdone, were involved in an end to end contest with Dr. Crokes which resulted in a 5-14 to 5-11 victory. The team led by 8 points at one point but the visitors fought back to cut the margin to 1 point with the last quarter looming. Our lads regained their composure however to hold out with 3 points the difference at the final whistle. The team has 3 wins from 4 games.
The two teams have qualified for County League Finals now next weekend. The Green team will meet Glenbeigh/Glencar/Cromane whilst the White team are awaiting confirmation of their opponent but it is likely to be Ballyduff or Keel/Listry.
Congratulations to the players and management involved. Keep up the good work

Congratulations: Athletics Success
Cian O’Brien who represents Milltown/Castlemaine GAA at Minor level switched codes once more at the weekend following his recent success which saw him finish 1st in the Munster 200m competition in a time of 22.61 seconds.
On Saturday last in Tullamore Cian competed in the 200m National Final and finished 3rd. All at the club would like to congratulate him on his recent achievements, a terrific athlete who has a bright future in store on the sporting front. Keep up the great work!

Gardaí Warn Dog Owners About Leaving Pets Unattended In Vehicles During Hot Weather

.

GARDAI in Tralee are asking dog owners to be conscious of the heat when taking their pets in their vehicles.

On Monday evening, Tralee gardai received a report of a dog left unattended in the back of a car for over two hours. The windows were slightly ajar, but it was still very hot in the vehicle.

The dog was removed and taken to a local vet and is now in good health. Gardai are asking people carrying their pets in their vehicles to be conscious of the heat in the car and not to leave them in the car during hot weather.

Siamsa Tíre Suspends All Non-Profit-Making Productions

.

THE Board and Management of Siamsa Tíre have made a joint decision to suspend all non-profit-making productions after June 17 and for the remainder of the summer season.

The board said this will provide an opportunity to secure the necessary funding to review the production offerings for the remainder of 2023 and into 2024, while the organisation prepares for a relaunch of its programme.

A statement from the board released yesterday reads as follows; “The Board believes that building on Siamsa Tíre’s cultural legacy, and with strong support from its community cast, that the organisation and venue have a valuable contribution to make, both as a receiving house for national and international productions, and as a centre of excellence for traditional arts performance and practice.

Continued below…

.

This decision enables the National Folk Theatre offering to be reimagined in an exciting and innovative way that, while honouring our tradition and heritage, will be more relevant to contemporary audiences.

In the meantime, the venue remains open for business and will continue to be a community cultural hub, hosting a wide variety of performances across theatre, music, dance and traditional arts for local audiences and visitors to the southwest.

The Siamsa Tíre Academy, which offers exciting developmental prospects for the organisation that we will continue to explore, will also remain open.

The loss of momentum due to closure during Covid 19, the changing face of the tourism market, compounded by the rising cost of living and energy prices have been key factors in reaching this difficult decision.

However, the Board is happy to confirm that we are in discussion with Kerry County Council, The Arts Council and the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport, Gaelteacht and Media to secure Siamsa Tíre’s future; we are grateful for their ongoing commitment, support and agreement on Siamsa’s fresh direction, as we seek a new way forward.

We will continue to work with them in the coming months. This is an exciting time for the organisation, and we are optimistic about the opportunity to work with all our stakeholders, as we pivot to a new model,” the statement concluded.

World Ocean Day is celebrated annually on June 8th to highlight the important role the ocean has for our life and the planet.

Marine litter has become a global problem for humans and marine life alike. However, communities around Ireland have demonstrated their desire to be part of the solution by taking part in several beach cleaning calls to action. Making sure litter is collected and disposed of properly at the source is vital for a cleaner ocean and a greener world for all of us to enjoy.

People who haven’t registered their clean-up can still join an existing one. For more information, please visit Clean Coasts’ event page.

Austin Stacks GAA Club News

.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 0-12; Castleisland Desmonds 0-5.

Our Seniors chalked up their third Co. League win of the season in this round 8 game played in a scorching hot Sunday afternoon  (4th June) in Connolly Park. The sides were level with four points each at half time – three of ours from placed balls – Conor Myers (2) and goalkeeper, Ben Quilter – and one from play by Jordan Kissane.

We had an outstanding second half scoring a further eight points – five of them from play. While it was a great team performance there were some brilliant individual displays also. Early during the second half, for example, Jack Murphy made a brilliant run up-field to put Jordan Kissane (Man of the Match) through for a brilliant point.

Brendan O’Sullivan, making his first appearance of the season, was no sooner on the pitch as a sub mid-way through the second half when he scored two super points.

Donnacha Sayers, making his Senior team debut, also impressed and all this in the sweltering summer heat. It was also good to see Gearóid Fitzgerald making his first appearance of the season. There were great displays also by the likes of Dylan Casey, Armin Heinrich and Joey Nagle who have been out of the lime light recently because of their Kerry involvement.

While it was a well-deserved win it still leaves us in a precarious position on the League table – 3rd from bottom, So it goes without saying that we need to win our remaining three rounds away to Milltown/Castlemaine on this coming week-end, at home to Kilcummin (w/e 25th June) and away to Gneeveguilla (w/e 9th July).

Team: Ben Quilter (0-1), Niall Fitzmaurice, Joey Nagle, Jack O’Shea, Paul O’Sullivan (Capt) (0-1), Dylan Casey (0-1), Jack Murphy, Michael O’Gara (0-1), Armin Heinrich, Cillian Litchfield, Jordan Kissane (0-3 – one free), Eoghan Carroll, Donnacha Sayers, Shane Carroll, Conor Myers (0-3 – two frees).

Subs used: Brendan O’Sullivan (44m) (0-2), Gearóid Fitzgerald (52m), Luke Casey (55m), Noah Townsend (58m).

CONGRATULATIONS and best wishes to Club Footballer, Barry Shanahan and his new bride Linda Pototzki who were married in Portugal last Saturday (3rd June). Some great photos coming through of the event. Barry, of course, is just one of 10 Club players to have captained a SF Co. Championship winning team, that one in 2014.

B FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 2-6; Rathmore 0-11.

This Division 5 Shield game played in Connolly Park on a glorious Friday evening (2nd June) ended with a brilliant one point victory by our lads after a devastating fourth quarter display. Rathmore dominated the opening three quarters. They led by four points to nil at the end of the first quarter. They led at half time by seven points to two. At the end of the third quarter they led by six points (0-11 to 1-2) – our goal coming in the 36th minute from Damien Hogan.

But in the final quarter we held the opposition scoreless while we added a goal and four points ourselves (1-3 coming from Damien Hogan and the other point scored by Gearóid Sheehan.

So on any other day Damien would easily be the Man of the Match. But not on this occasion. The MOTM Award went deservedly to goalkeeper, Michael Tansley, who was making his B Team debut. Michael made at least six outstanding saves during the course of the game (three in both halves).

Team: Michael Tansley, Ruairí O’Connell, John Murphy (Capt), Seán Moynihan, Andrew Morrissey, Luke Chester, Evan Foley, Ciarán O’Connell, Gearóid Sheehan (0-1), Dean Rusk (0-1), Daniel O’Rourke, David Courtney, Joe Looby, Damien Hogan (2-4 – three pointed frees),

Sub used: Billy Stack (33m).

THE C TEAM: Our C Team have one  more round to play in this season’s Co. League against  Laune Rangers and it goes ahead in Connolly Park on the weekend after next w/e 18th June). To date in this four round League we have lost two games against Fossa and Rathmore and received a walk-over from Kerins O’Rahillys in round 3.

THE D TEAM: Our D team have still just one game played in this five round competition to date (a brilliant win against Scartaglin by 5-14 to 1-1 in round 2) Our 5th and final round game is away to Clounmacon on w/e 18th June. No details have yet come to hand about our postponed games against Duagh and Beaufort.

MINOR FOOTBALL:  What a great win by the Kerry Minors in the Munster Final played in Austin Stack Park on last Friday evening (2nd June). Congrats to the whole squad, including our own six players on the panel – Ben Murphy (Man of the Match), Daniel Kirby, Paddy Lane, Ronan Carroll, Ryan O’Driscoll and Seán Óg Brosnan, and our own Wayne Quillinan, the Team Manager.

This was a milestone victory for Kerry – winning their 50th Munster title since their very first one away back in 1931. And what a coincidence – that 1931 team  was also laced with six Rock players – players who went on the become house-hold names thereafter – Brendan Reidy, Frank O’Neill, John Paul Doyle, Jimmy Gawksie Gorman, Tim O’Sullivan and Eddie Barrett.

CLUB CARDS: Our Card sessions continue in the Clubhouse on Mondays and Thursdays with the starting time of 9pm sharp. All at the Cards send their condolences to one of our regular Card Player, Monica Cournane, on the recent death of her sister (Dora O’Brien (nee Fitzgerald), Castlegregory.
