Spain, a Kildare native, played Academy football with both Shamrock Rovers and St. Patrick’s Athletic at under 19 level.

He made his senior SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division debut in 2022 with Athlone where he made 19 appearances for the Midlanders.

In February 2023, Spain made the move to Munster and to Treaty United where he made 20 appearances, 3 of which came against Kerry FC.

Spain was also an Ireland international underage, representing his country at Under 17 and Under 18 levels in 2018 and 2019.

Speaking following his signing for Kerry FC, Andy Spain said “I really am buzzing to sign for Kerry! After speaking to Conor, James and Billy, I can tell they are very ambitious about the season ahead and I’m delighted to be part of it.

“I feel it’s somewhere I can progress my career and hopefully help bring the club success! I can’t wait to put on the jersey in Mounthawk Park and play in front of the Kerry fans.”

First Team Head Coach Conor McCarthy said “We’re thrilled to have signed Andy for 2024. Andy is someone who knows the league having played a couple of seasons in it already, it’s a great sign when players from other clubs are finding Kerry an attractive place to come and that’s down to years of hard work from everyone at the club, I’m sure I speak for everyone in saying we’re looking forward to seeing him in action very soon.”

MINISTER Norma Foley was on hand on Thursday to launch a CD by late Tralee musician, Paddy Malone, at the charity shops of Action Lesotho in the Tralee Shopping Centre.

The songs – a mix of old favourites and originals – are sung by Paddy and the CD was mastered by John Brown, who played with Paddy for many years.

Compiled by Fran Malone, Paddy’s widow, in his memory, the sale of the CD will benefit the charity Action Lesotho, particularly in its infant feeding programme, which provides vital nutrition to malnourished babies in Lesotho, one of the poorest countries in the world.

Paul Hanrahan, Chair of the Board of Action Lesotho, commented; “we are so grateful to Minister Foley for launching this CD.  She is an extremely busy lady, and taking time to do this shows her compassion for some of the world’s poorest children.”

He went on to praise Fran Malone and the Malone family for her generosity in donating proceeds of the sale to the feeding programme.

“I played with Paddy myself back in the day,” he said, “and I know that people all over the county loved his distinctive, melodic voice.  The CD is a real treat for music lovers and would make an ideal gift, while doing good for infants who are not getting enough to eat.”

Education Minister and Kerry TD Norma Foley said the CD was a celebration of Paddy Malone’s musical talent and ability.

“He was a gifted musician and I am so pleased that his rich legacy is being honoured with the release of this CD. I am especially pleased that it will benefit Action Lesotho and I want to acknowledge Fran and her family for their enormous generosity. I wish Paul Hanrahan and all involved in Action Lesotho continued success with their good and important work,” she said.

The CD is available in Action Lesotho’s shops in the Tralee Shopping Centre – which sell second-hand books, bric-a-brac and vintage entertainment items.

All the shops are run by volunteers, and all the money raised goes directly to the project in Lesotho, a small mountainous country in southern Africa.  It is also available on the Website www.actionlesotho.ie.

Continued below…

.

Eligible projects include those in the areas of Community and Energy, Travel, Food and Waste, Shopping and Recycling, and Local Climate and Environmental Action.
