THE Inspired Bio-Hub has announced an exciting fundraising initiative featuring local men Joe Moriarty and Ray Moynihan, who will tackle a 500km scenic Algarve cycling challenge from October 5th to October 12th.

All funds raised during this venture will contribute to the construction of a much-needed new polytunnel at the hub, which will greatly enhance their capacity to engage participants in the growth and production of organic food.

“I’m excited to take on this challenge with Ray and support such an essential initiative,” says Joe Moriarty. “It’s thrilling to think that every Km we cycle will help not just build the new polytunnel, but also empower individuals to create their business and engage with sustainable food practices. Together, we can make a positive impact!”

Ray Moynihan adds; “Cycling through the stunning Algarve will be both a challenge and a pleasure, but it pales in comparison to seeing the joy that our work at the Bio-Hub brings to individuals attending the workshops. It’s making a real difference in their lives and in the community, and we’re honoured to support them in this way.”

The cycling challenge not only promotes ecological awareness but also serves as a rallying cry for the community to get involved. Local residents, organisations, and businesses are encouraged to contribute, with donations through the Inspired idonate page and by participating in upcoming events at the hub.

Now, Inspired is eager to further enhance their biodiversity initiatives for a greater community impact.

To support Joe and Ray’s cycling challenge and contribute to the installation of the new polytunnel, please donate at https://www.idonate.ie/fundraiser/InspiredTralee23

Inspired, located in Tralee, has been hard at work for the part number of years, providing training, social integration, and employment opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities and over the past two years participants have actively engaged in workshops focused on sustainable food practices and eco-crafts at their Bio-Hub.

The Inspired Bio-Hub has been at the forefront of community engagement through horticultural workshops, thanks to generous funding from Rethink Ireland and Creative Climate Action Ireland.

Over the past few months, participants have discovered the joys of growing their own food, fostering a deep connection to nature while also promoting sustainability in our community.

With the new polytunnel, participants will have the opportunity to cultivate a wider variety of fruits and vegetables year-round, furthering their journey toward entrepreneurship.

As they grow and sell their produce, this exciting venture will not only empower them economically but also contribute to local food security.

Unsold produce will be donated to Meals on Wheels and Food Share Kerry, ensuring that surplus food benefits those in need within our community.

Inedible unsold produce will be responsibly composted, fully activating the food loop system and reinforcing our commitment to sustainable practices.
