GOLF FUNDRAISER: The British Open is nearly upon us again with the players once again teeing it up at the home of golf at St Andrews on Thursday week, 14th July. The field is complete with the cream of the golf descending on the east coast of Scotland for what is now the final major of the season.

Last year we ran a very successful fundraiser based around the event with John Fox taking down the big €1k prize. More importantly this is a fundraiser for the club with the revenue generated going towards the continuous development of the Austin Stacks Club and its facilities.

The format is largely the same as last year with one difference. This year you pick six and count four just to give players a little bit of leeway in their selections. Once again players can play online, find link on club website & all our social media platforms or alternatively cards will be available from sellers.

Once again players will be able to log on to our live scoreboard to see not only how their players are doing but also how they are progressing on the competition leaderboard. Best wishes to all players and thanks for your support.

SENIOR FOOTBALL: The last round of the Co. League, scheduled for this Saturday (9th July), finds three teams topping the table on eleven points each – Dr.Crokes, Dingle and ourselves. In other major Leagues Crokes would be declared champions on score difference – they have +55, Dingle are on +50 while we are on +41. This season’s Rules state that a play-off will determine the Divisional winner. So it all comes down to the results of Saturday’s games. And all three teams have away games in the final round – Crokes travel to Kenmare, Dingle make the short journey to Gallarus while we travel to Spa, Killarney for a 6pm start (note the change of time).

B FOOTBALL: Unfortunately with recent results not going our way our B Team are already relegated to Division 5 for next season. In the final round of the Co. League on this coming Saturday (9th July) we have a home game against Beale at 7.30pm.

THE C TEAM: Listry 0-11; Austin Stacks 1-6;

This Co. League Shield Final played in Ballymac on last Saturday evening (2nd July) saw another evenly contested affair with the Mid Kerry boys. When the sides met in the earlier round of the competition in Listry the home side had a one point win and on this occasion the margin was two points.

The sides were level on three points each at the end of the first quarter with Kyle Fitzgibbon on target twice from a free and play and Enda Cahill also from play. Listry were in complete control during the second quarter scoring a further four points while we remained scoreless. This left them ahead at half time by 0-7 to 0-3.

We had a very good opening start to the second half. Brilliant work by Tommy McLoughlin and Dara Moriarty led to the only goal of the game put away beautifully by Gearóid Kilgallen By the end of the third quarter we had added a further three points – two pointed frees by Kyle Fitzgibbon and one from play by Jack Doyle. With the opposition adding just one point in this quarter we were ahead by one (1-6 to 0-8) as the game entered the last fifteen minutes. But, like the first half, we went scoreless in the final quarter while Listry added a further three points to clinch victory for them.

Conor Lowe was a brilliant attacking centre-back on the evening and deservedly won the Celsius Mensware Man of the Match Award.

Team: Brian Horgan, Shane Kelliher, Shane Greensmyth (Capt), Craig Teahan, Dean Scanlon, Conor Lowe, Billy Stack, Enda Cahill (0-1), Joe Reidy, Jack Doyle (0-1), Greg Scanlon, Gearóid Kilgallen (1-0), James Charles, Kyle Fitzgibbon (0-4 – three frees), Dara Moriarty.

Subs used: Tommy McLoughlin (34m), Fintan O’Connor (46m), Pádraig Breen (53m), Ger Teahon (57m).

We now look forward to what is the C Team’s favourite competition and that’s The Barrett Cup. No fixtures have come to hand as we write.

U21 FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-12; Rathmore 0-7.

We had a very good result in the opening round of the Co. Championship,  played in dreadful weather condition s in Connolly Park last Monday week (27th June). The quarter final was taking place in Kncoknagoshel on this Monday night (4thJuly) against St. Kierans. Check the webside for details.
