SENIOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 1-14; Kilcummin 0-9.

Our Seniors put up their best performance of the season so far with a must-win display in the penultimate round of the Co. League played in Connolly Park on this Sunday afternoon (25th June). A brilliant start saw Greg Horan win the throw-in and Jordan Kissane opening the scoring after just ten seconds.

Eleven minutes then elapsed before Kilcummin, with two quick points took the lead. Donagh McKivergan then equalized from  a free in the 13th minute after a foul on Colm Browne.

Colm was involved again three minutes later when he intercepted a dangerous move by the opposition and Donagh Mac was again on target from play to put us in the lead again, a lead which we never lost thereafter.

Another pointed free by Donagh and two from play by Jordan Kissane and Jack Morgan left us ahead at the break by double scores (0-6 to 0-3).

Even though Kilcummin always looked dangerous on the attack we went on to out-score then again in the second half ( 1-8 to 0-6) – our goal coming in the 38th minute from Shane O’Callaghan.

After the game Team Manager, Billy Lee presented Michael O’Donnell with The Celsius Mensware Man of the Match Award.

With one more round to play – away to Gneeveguilla in a fortnights time – it is still in the lap of the gods as to whether we will survive in the top tier for the next season, even if we win that last game, as other results will also have a determining factor. So as the man said long ago in a similar situation  – how do we do it – by prayer and fasting but not too much of either.

Team: Michael Tansley, Niall Fitzmaurice, Barry Shanahan, Paul O’Sullivan (0-1), Colm Browne, Armin Heinrich, Jack Morgan (0-1), Greg Horan, Michael O’Donnell (0-3 – one free), Eoghan Carroll, Fiachna Mangan, Donagh McKivergan (0-4 – two frees), Jordan Kissane 0-3), Cillian Litchfield, Shane O’Callaghan (1-1).

Subs used: Seán Quilter (48m), Brendan O’Sullivan (55m) (0-1), Donnacha Sayers (60m).

THE D TEAM: Clounmacon 0-6; Austin Stacks; 3-11

The D Team travelled to Clounmacon on last Friday night and turned in another great performance to add to their opening game of the season just over two months ago (a 5-14 to 1-1 win against Scartaglin on the 16th April).

We still have two back games to complete, both away, against Duagh and Beaufort. No fixtures for same have come to hand as we write.
