Twenty teams will take part in this 9-aside competition and we’ll have two teams in action. CAID FAOI 11/12: Sorry…no game this week. Ní raibh go leor imreoirí ag Cnoc na hEaglaise…laethanta saoire, srl! We are very happy with the progress being made by both our groups; this is very encouraging and we look forward to building on it again in the weeks ahead. Ar aghaidh linn, a bhuachaillí cumasacha sciliúla na Carraige! (Cóilín Ó Tíocháin)
PEIL FAOI 13: The Bon Secours Hospital Rose Cup juvenile GAA tournament took place last week, i rith Fhéile Idirnáisiúnta Rós Thrá Lí, and The Rock boys came out on top! ‘Well done’ to all who helped to bring the Rose Cup to Connolly Park once again! Sixteen clubs competed. Club na nGael and Club Uí Chéirín-Uí Raithille were the hosts agus imríodh na cluichí i bPáirc Uí hÉalaithe agus ar an gCillín. Our stalwarts came out on top in their group, a tough group, at Páirc Uí hÉalaithe against An Ghaeltacht, St James Club (Galway) and Ardfert.
They defeated Club Uí Chéirín-Uí Raithille in the semi-final and An Baile Dubh in the final. The Rose Cup stays in The Rock! The Rose of Tralee Cup tournament has become a valued fixture in the juvenile football calendar; it provides young footballers with the opportunity to showcase their talents, build friendships and enjoy a day of high-quality competition. Football and fun for all…caid agus craic do chách! (Jonathan Magnier)
CAID FAOI 14: Our U14s played against Laune Rangers on Tuesday (18th) in Connolly Park. Well done, boys, you gave of your best and did well! Training: at 7pm on Tuesdays, unless we’ve a game, and at 11am on Sundays. (Jonathan Magnier)
MINORS: (i) We began our championship campaign with a tough assignment v East Kerry last Thursday in Cordal (An Chúil). With all three of our Kerry representatives, namely Alex Touhy, Danny Lane and Eoin Mangan, unavailable the odds were stacked against us from the get-go but our lads acquitted themselves with great honesty; the final score of 5-17 to 1-10 gives a good reflection of how the game went (gan ár laochra móra!).
Squad: Conor O’Regan, Fionn Cotter, Darragh Lyons, Oran O’Donoghue, Mark Riordan, Ben Litchfield, David Hobbert, Paddy Lucid, Jayden Moriarty, Harry Murphy, Jack Diggin, Jay Sweeney, Jake Carmody, Haulie Cotter, Joe Barry, Denis Brassil, Nathan O’Connor, Seán Clifford, Barry Laide, David Aherne, Jayden O’Dowd, Ryan O’Carroll, Rory Lynch. (ii) We’ve another big challenge this week as we play the Dr Croke Club minors at home in Connolly Park at 7pm on Thursday. Your attendance would be gratefully appreciated and might even account for a cúpla cúilín to help our boys pip the Killarney lads! An Charraig Abú!

SIAMSA TÍRE: Just 50 years ago Tralee’s Siamsa Tíre ‘players’ performed their ‘Fadó Fadó’ show at the Palace Theatre, Broadway, NY, and were given standing ovations and brilliant reviews. At the time a highly rated journalist, Desmond Rushe, said that they captured a cultural relationship, built not on ancestral marketing but on the risky act of putting local culture in front of a foreign audience; they sang songs in our own tongue (instead of such stage-Irish hits as ‘Danny Boy’). Critics from Boston to Chicago praised it as ‘authentic.’ ‘Pity ‘tis gone! Yes…and who was sitting in the front row for that Siamsa Tíre ‘masterpiece’ on Broadway in 1976? Our very own Carmel Quilter-O’Neill!
