Ballymac Merlin Works His Magic To Win €30,000 Irish St Leger

Ballymac Merlin, winner of the 2021 Matchbook Irish St.Leger Final at Limerick Greyhound Stadium for Liam Dowling Ballymac Kennels in a time of 29.68 with Paul Geasley of Matchbook Betting Exchange & Shane Dowling of Ballymac Kennels.

A DOG trained by Liam Dowling was the winner of the the Matchbook Betting Exchange Irish St. Leger at Limerick Greyhound Stadium on Saturday night .

Despite heading into the decider as the 8/1 outsider, it was Ballymac Merlin who produced a phenomenal performance to hand Liam Dowling a second St. Leger triumph in three years.

At the outset, 96 greyhounds went into the hat hoping to land what is one of the most prestigious prizes in greyhound racing.

Liam Dowling won the Irish St. Leger in 2019 with Ballymac Anton and it was the Kerry handler who was destined to take back the title in 2021 as Ballymac Merlin, a son of Vulturi and Ballymac Belle, displayed pure grit and determination to see off Deerjet Sydney by three parts of a length at the winning line.

The joint 8/1 outsider of the field, Ballymac Merlin has just the four career wins to his name from twenty-two starts but he produced a sensational display on the night that mattered and after stopping the clock in 29.68, he is the Matchbook Betting Exchange Irish St. Leger champion for 2021, taking home the €30,000 first prize.
