A TRALEE family handed over a cheque for nearly €6,700 to Kerry Hospice on Wednesday after swimming and running fundraisers held earlier this summer.
Harold Behan of Racecourse Lawn passed away in January and his family wanted to give something back after the wonderful care he received at the palliative care unit prior to his passing.
Daughter Caitriona decided to do daily swim during the month of May, while his other daughter Darel and his son Damien took on the ‘Half On The Head’ run in June, with Caitriona also completing the 10k route at that event.

Members of the Behan family gathered at the palliative care unit to hand over the cheque for €6,690 which was gratefully accepted by Kerry Hospice committee members.
“We wanted to give something back. Dad spent a week in the palliative care unit and the care he received meant a lot,” said Darel. “We’re absolutely delighted with the amount raised, we received great support from both our friends and mom and dad’s friends.”
“I have been involved in fundraising for Kerry Hospice over a number of years, but I had no idea of the fantastic level of care until our personal experience,” said Harold’s wife Ita. “That’s why handing over the cheque here today is so special as we have seen first-hand the work being done here.”
