Busy May For Tralee Art Group With Two Events Planned

.

TRALEE Art Group (TAG) is  involved in two inspiring collaborations this May, celebrating the intersection of art, science, and community impact across Kerry.

The first event marks a partnership with the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR) at Munster Technological University. The Science+Art Project will officially open on Wednesday, May 6 at 2pm at An Cuan, MTU North Campus.

This innovative exhibition is the first of its kind at MTU, showcasing a collection of original artworks inspired by cell biology research conducted at CABR.

Members of Tralee Art Group have worked closely with scientific imagery, transforming microscopic cellular structures into compelling visual pieces.

The result is a unique fusion of disciplines, offering audiences an accessible and creative interpretation of complex scientific work.

The second collaboration highlights TAG’s commitment to community wellbeing through the donation of original artworks to the Irish Kidney Association, Kerry Branch.

These works, inspired by the landscapes of County Kerry, will be displayed in the Association’s holiday homes located in Tralee and Killarney.

The homes provide essential respite for kidney patients and their families, offering a peaceful environment for rest and recovery.

The addition of artwork aims to enhance these spaces, contributing positively to the emotional wellbeing of those who stay there.

Teresa Looney, Patient Liaison Officer with the Irish Kidney Association Kerry Branch, commented:  “The addition of artwork to the properties, as well as to the Dialysis Unit at Kerry General Hospital, will make an enormous difference. We cannot thank Tralee Art Group enough for their generous donation of original artworks.”

Caitriona Foley, Chairperson of Tralee Art Group, along with committee member Susanne Cahalane, who also volunteers with the Association, expressed their enthusiasm for the initiative.

They noted that the group is delighted to contribute in a way that enhances the environment for kidney patients and their families, with the hope that the artworks will bring comfort and lift spirits.

The handover of the artworks to the IKA will take place at the Tralee holiday home at 7pm on May 7.
