Call For Council To Tell New Estate Tenants When They Can Move In

Cllr Deirdre Ferris.

A LOCAL councillor expressed her frustration at the delays experienced by tenants waiting to receive their keys at a new housing development in Ardfert.

At the Tralee MD meeting on Monday, Sinn Féin Cllr Deirdre Ferris asked could Kerry County Council inform the members when the allocated tenants of the 22 house development, Áit Ardeaglais, will receive their keys to their homes and to inform the members why it has been delayed for so long?

Cllr Ferris said she had been receiving calls up to Monday morning where the allocated tenants cannot organise their children’s enrolment in the local school as they do not know when they will be moving to the village.

She said something had to be done soon as this was having repercussions for Ardfert NS who could lose a teacher due to enrolment issues because of the delay.

Council Management said the estate has been substantially completed for some time, but it has yet to receive its water connection which has delayed the final finishing of the project.

The surfacing of the road/parking bays commenced on June 21, after sign off by Irish Water that they were satisfied with the pipe network.

There was a water quality testing regime that has been implemented including chlorination and witnessed by Irish Water personnel.

The Council was awaiting the test results and on Sunday, July 4, they received them back with a successful outcome.

Having now received approval, they said this should expedite the process of sanctioning connection to the public mains . However, they were not in a position to commit to an exact date of handover of keys to tenants.
