THE new Kerry Rose was in the Town Park on Sunday for her first photoshoot in Tralee and Caoimhe Lynch was still buzzing from the night before.

The Beaufort/Killarney woman was shocked to hear Ollie Turner call out her name on Saturday night in the Heights Hotel Killarney and she was immediately surrounded by her 16 fellow contestants who heartily congratulated the 28 year old schoolteacher.

The past couple of months have been a wonderful experience for Caoimhe. “It’s been a brilliant experience, we’ve had so much fun over the past six weeks, with loads of activities and events, building up to last night, which was so special.”

“It was surreal hearing my name called out last night, but I was so happy. You’re watching all the other wonderful ladies go up and showing their best selves and it could have been any of us, so I was delighted. My family were delighted too and my mom was the proudest in Killarney.”

Caoimhe — who grew up in Killarney and moved with her mom, Siobhan, to Beaufort a few years ago — is a teacher in Trinity Comprehensive in Ballymun, Dublin. “I love it there. I did my placement there and stayed. The kids are amazing and it’s so rewarding.”

Caoimhe can expect to be making lots of trips home over the next 12 months as Kerry Rose with a plethora of engagement before, during and after the festival.

“I’m so excited. I’d say it’ll be busy, but I’m really looking forward to representing Kerry in the Rose of Tralee, but also for the year ahead.”
