Dingle Artist Wins Best Dressed Man At Listowel Races

Irish artist, Liam O’Neill, was declared the Ryle Menswear Best Dressed Man at Listowel Races on Thursday.

It may have been raining, but the style shone brightly on the fifth day of the Listowel Harvest Racing Festival as sharp-dressed men from all over the country competed to win the prestigious title of the Ryle Menswear Best Dressed Man.

Judged by Niall Botty O’Callaghan, the race was on as men of all ages in very dapper attire jockeyed for position to win a prize fund valued at €2,000.

After much deliberation, Liam O’Neill from Dingle, one of Ireland’s foremost contemporary artists, was declared the overall winner alright and crowned as the Ryle Menswear Best Dressed Man of 2024. Liam won a bespoke suit from Ryle Menswear valued at €1,500.

The joint runners-up were Raymond Gilbourne from Limerick and Paudie Horgan from Listowel, who each received a suit from top menswear label Benetti.

LISTOWEL Races continued on Monday and so did the fashion aspect with the Forever In Blue Jeans competition.

This fashionable and fun event attracted record entries with judge Timmy Dowd assigned a difficult task in deciding the winners.

Brothers Michael (6) and Christopher Hellard (4) had a very good day  winning the Under 16’s category in the competition sponsored by O’Connors Hardware and Farms Supplies.

Smartly dressed in race attire of warm autumn jackets and denim blue jeans they caught the judge’s eye and each went home €50 richer.

THE Listowel Harvest Racing Festival kicked off yesterday and there was a great crowd present on a dry but cloudy day.

There was no shortage of style too with a prize for a very stylish attendee up for grabs, judged by well-known beauty professional, Mary O’Donnell.

Katrina Galvin was declared the overall winner of the Lyrath Estate Hotel Most Stylish Race-Goer Competition. She wore a headpiece from Pamela Scott Tralee and green dress by Hello clothing.

Caitriona O’Mahoney, Sales and Marketing Director, of Lyrath Estate Hotel presented Katrina with her prize of two nights accommodation, with dinner on one evening in the magical surroundings of Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny.

A KILLORGLIN woman will represent Kerry at the Miss Universe Ireland Final at the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk Co Louth on this Friday September 20.  

Natalie Sheehan (20) is passionate about spreading awareness about a rare skin condition she has struggled with called chronic spontaneous urticaria dermagraphia.

A FUN morning was had by all at the Phoenix Women’s Shed Welcome Back Hat Party last Thursday in their HQ in the Pipe Band Hall on Matt Talbot Road.

Ladies strutted their style and creativity on the ‘Hat Walk’ and there were prizes on offer, with the competition judged by Diane Jeffers and Margaret Hayes.

They had eight finalists and the winners on the day were…
1st prize – a special headpiece donated by Diane Jeffers went to Catherine O’Brien whose hat was worn by Maura Dutton.

Kerry Young People Urged To Enter Relove Fashion Competition

YOUNG people in Kerry are encouraged to register for the Relove Fashion Competition.

This competition offers teenagers the chance to showcase their creativity and passion for sustainable fashion by designing and creating their own sustainable outfits.

Participants in the Relove Fashion Competition will get the opportunity to delve into the world of sustainable fashion, learning essential skills such as repurposing, upcycling, altering and repair. For more information on how to enter, click here.

The competition challenges entrants to use their creative design skills to create a sustainable, wearable outfit from preloved clothing and textiles.

The textiles can be unwanted items in their own wardrobe, donations from friends or family, items sourced at swap events or from charity shops.

Previous winning designs have been beautifully crafted from bed linen, curtains, cushions, shirts, ties, and even Santa Hats.

Speaking at the launch of the Relove Fashion Competition 2024, Lorraine Keane, Fashion Relief founder, entrepreneur and media presenter said; “I am thrilled to launch this exciting new step for the Relove Fashion Competition. I have been involved as a judge since the beginning and it is wonderful to see it grow from a regional competition to a national competition. This means that secondary school aged students throughout the Republic of Ireland can enter the competition. I am really looking forward to seeing the creativity and ingenuity of this year’s students.”

The competition is open to young people in participating Local Authorities (which includes Kerry County Council) across the Republic of Ireland.

LISTOWEL Race Company has today announced their action-packed programme for the forthcoming Harvest Racing Festival from Sunday, September 22nd to Saturday, September 28.

Celebrating 166 years of top-quality racing at the scenic course in Listowel this year, Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are all National Hunt meetings and Monday and Tuesday feature an all-flat race card.

Off the race course, there is something for everyone of all ages including five fashion competitions; exceptional free children’s entertainment with a petting farm and top live music acts including the return of ABBA Waterloo, plus the ‘Save your Heels, We’ve got Wheels’ free double-decker bus is back on Ladies Day.

The opening day’s card is sponsored by Kerry Group and the feature race is the Kerry Group Handicap Steeplechase €45,000.

Tuesday’s feature race is the Edmond & Josie Whelan Memorial Listowel Stakes €40,000.

The Guinness Kerry National Handicap Steeplechase €200,000 (Grade 3) is on Wednesday and always attracts a huge crowd.  Post racing on Wednesday, ABBA Waterloo take to the stage at 6pm for a free concert on the course playing all the icon 70’s Swedish Supergroup’s smash hits.

On Thursday, the feature race is The Liam Healy Memorial Lartigue Hurdle (Handicap) Listed Race of €60,000.

Back by popular demand, the Best Dressed Man’s Competition on Thursday is once again generously sponsored by Ryles Menswear Tralee and the judge is Cllr. Niall Botty O’Callaghan.

The overall winner will receive a custom-made suit from Ryle Menswear valued at €1,200 and the first runner-up will receive a full Benetti suit, shirt and tie. Anyone wishing to enter should be on course by 2pm and the finalists and winners will be revealed in the parade ring after the 5th race.

Judged by former Miss World, international model, and best-selling author Rosanna Davison, and award-winning top Irish fashion designer Heidi Higgins, the overall winner of the Best Dressed Lady will be jetting off to the Big Apple and staying in the fabulous Fitzpatrick Hotel in Manhattan.

In addition to this fabulous prize, there are also generous cash prizes of €1,000 for the Most Creative Headpiece as well as €500 for the Most Contemporary Outfit.

Anyone wishing to enter should be on course by 1pm and the judges will personally tour the course to select finalists.

The Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap Steeplechase, €50,000 is the feature race on the last day of the meeting, Saturday 28rd of September.

It’s also Sustainable Style Saturday. This fashion competition in association with Listowel Tidy Towns and An Taisce, continues to encourage racegoers to consider the circular fashion economy and re-style and re-wear preloved and vintage clothing.

This year the cash prizes are bigger than ever with €500 cash for the Most Sustainably Dressed Racegoer (male or female) sponsored by Listowel Race Company up for grabs and €100 for the first runner-up sponsored by Oonagh Chemco Pharmacy.

Judged by sustainability advocate and fashion personality Orlagh Winters, there are also new categories with a €300 cash prize sponsored by Con McCarthy Brokers for the Most Sustainable 1980’s look and €100 sponsored by John McGuire Pharmacy for the Most Sustainable under 16’s Outfit.

WITH just a few days until the Roses arrive in Tralee, the contestants gathered at Airfield Estate in Dublin this morning to meet the hosts of the selection nights.

In what has become an annual tradition, the Roses met Dáithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas for the RTE photoshoot.

It’s been a busy couple of days for the Roses since Sunday when they met each other for the first time at Barberstown Castle. They enjoyed a visit to The K Club and soaked up the hospitality on offer in Kildare Town.

Three-Day Festival Of Racing In Killarney Next Week

KILLARNEY Racecourse is set to host its three-day summer horse-racing festival from Thursday, August 22 to Saturday, August 24.

The August Festival at Killarney Races offers patrons fantastic racing, socialising, entertainment and so much more at Ireland’s most scenic racecourse.

Thursday and Friday are evening meetings and Saturday is a stylish afternoon affair. Lauren Arthurs and Aidan O’Mahony have been enlisted to judge the O’Donoghue Ring Collection Best Dressed at Killarney Races on Saturday August 24th.

Thursday National Hunt racing gets underway at 4.33pm, with gates open from 2.30pm. There’ll be live music on the lawn from Resolute and post racing there will be live music in the Jim Culloty Bar from DJ Donal.

Friday Flat racing takes place at 5.10pm with the Kellihers Toyota being the feature race. Again there will be music on the lawn from Resolute. Phil ‘n da Blanks takes to the stage in the Jim Culloty Bar for an après racing party, while the team from TG4 will be on hand to broadcast ‘Rásaí Beo’ live from Ireland’s most scenic racecourse.

Saturday sees the O’Donoghue Ring Collection Best Dressed Day, where glamour takes centre stage as fashion connoisseurs close out the August Festival in spectacular style.

The most fashionable ladies and gentlemen will vie for a prestigious prize of the ultimate luxury escape to Kerry including a three-night stay in a newly refurbished suite at Killarney Plaza Hotel & Spa, atmospheric dinners with champagne, spa treatments, whiskey tastings and quintessential Kerry excursions.

THIS afternoon sees thousands of ladies and gents strut out in style for the Lee Strand Best Dressed Day at Killarney Races.

This year’s celebrity judges are singer Jake Carter and Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Karen Byrne.

No less than 10 lucky ladies and gents will be selected by the judges, each taking home a prize for their efforts in the fashion stakes.

The finalists will then battle it out in style for the chance to be crowned the 2024 Lee Strand Best Dressed Lady and Gent at Killarney Races and they will take home the covetable prizes of a VIP trip for two to Paris and Milan respectively.

KILLARNEY Races is in full swing and tomorrow sees the highlight of the July meeting in the Lee Strand Killarney Races.

So far it’s been a week of top class summer racing, food, fashion, live music and a fantastic atmosphere with yesterday seeing ‘Family Day’ return, featuring games and attractions for all to enjoy.

A panel of Roses taking part in the 2024 Rose of Tralee Festival were also in attendance while live music from Resolute and post-racing DJ Ray Stack ensured the party went on til late.

‘Fall Designer Fashion Show’ At The Rose Hotel This August

THE second Debs season of the year is in full swing at Ballyroe Heights Hotel as newly graduated sixth years enjoy a summer soirée.

Earlier this week saw students from Ballybunion and Causeway schools attend their annual get-together and last night saw over 130 teenagers from Presentation Milltown converge on the hotel for the party organised by the students themselves.

They arrived on buses and looked very glamorous as they made their way into the venue, as you can see from our photos below…

SUMMER arrived for a couple of hours on Tuesday evening as former students from Causeway Comprehensive School made their way in the sunshine to the Ballyroe Heights Hotel.

The occasion was the annual Debs Ball, organised by the students themselves, which saw them get together just weeks after completing their Leaving Cert.
