CLEAN Coasts attended Inch Beach parkrun on Saturday last to promote the #2MinuteBeachCleanCampaign.

This collaboration between the two communities gave parkrun participants the opportunity to chat with Clean Coasts Development Officer for Cork, Kerry, and Waterford, Elaine Doyle, to learn about how they can get involved with the #2MinuteBeachClean Campaign.

It was a windy morning on the beach but that didn’t stop local and visiting parkrunners alike from turning out for their Saturday morning run.

As World Sand Dune Day was also celebrated on June 27, the conversation turned to sand dunes.

The parkrun community had many questions for Elaine in relation to the dunes at Inch. They notice movement and erosion in the dunes, and they said that they sometimes have to move the 2.5km marker for the run which takes place on the strand.

Several lucky participants received #2MinuteBeachClean kits by being the first participants up to the stand to say: “Small Actions – Big Impact”.  Each kit included a foldable litter picker, making it easy to keep at hand for whenever the opportunity arises to do a quick two minute clean up.

Elaine noted that one of the beach lifeguards took part in the parkrun, did a beach clean, and went for a swim before turning in for his shift.

The #2MinuteBeachClean campaign aims to encourage people to take just two minutes to collect some litter while they are out and about, snap a photo, and share it on social media to show just how easy it is to make a difference.
