A LOCAL councillor has called for increased resources to implement greater garda visibility on the streets of Tralee.

Cllr Daly said the announcement of increased Garda resources and a high-visibility policing plan for Limerick was a welcome and positive step for that city.

“The deployment of additional Gardaí, up to 15 high visibility Garda deployed every day on patrol,  and a renewed focus on community policing demonstrates what can be achieved when the Government recognises the need for greater public safety. Feedback on the initiative has been very positive,” said Cllr Daly.

“I am calling on the Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, to now ensure that Tralee receives the same level of commitment. Our town urgently needs a stronger visible Garda presence and an increase in dedicated Community Gardaí.”

“For many years, Garda resources in Tralee have been stretched to their limits. Garda members continue to do an outstanding job under significant pressure, but they cannot be expected to meet growing demands without the necessary staffing levels and support. Recently County Kerry received four new Gardaí — two for Listowel , one in Killarney and one in Tralee. That is not enough to restore numbers,” he said.

“Visible policing is one of the most effective ways to reassure the public, deter anti-social behaviour and crime, and strengthen the relationship between Gardaí and the communities they serve. Community Gardaí play a vital role in engaging with local residents, schools, businesses and vulnerable members of society, and these services must be properly resourced.”

“The Government has shown through its actions in Limerick that targeted investment in frontline policing is possible. Tralee deserves the same attention and the same commitment,” said Cllr Daly.
