A TRALEE councillor has asked that a sculpture located on the outskirts of town be moved to the town centre.

At the meeting of the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council on Monday, Fianna Fáil Cllr Johnnie Wall asked that the Council would move the Rose Sculpture from its present site on the Tralee south bypass (near the Killarney exit) to the Denny site as the public cannot really appreciate it in its current location.

In reply, Council management said the Rose Sculpture was commissioned as the Scheme Art Piece for the Tralee Bypass and was funded on that basis and for this reason it cannot be relocated off of the Tralee Bypass.

They said landscaping enhancement measures at its current location will be considered to create visual improvements to the base of the structure.

Cllr Wall accepted the response but said as it stands, the sculpture can’t be seen properly and he asked that efforts be made to make it more prominent.

The rose sculpture should be on the roundabout as it should have been from day 1.
Eventually when the 3rd entrance to the retail park from the roundabout at the N70 / N22 happens, it will be where it should always have been.

I also feel the statue of the old iron forge should be moved from the Green to the roundabout by the technical university for historic reasons.

Roundabouts are great platforms for art works and the roundabouts in Tralee are crap and are being kept that way!
