KERRY Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) has announced the dual launch of the Cycling Without Age initiative at both West Kerry Community Hospital in Dingle and Castleisland Daycare Centre.

Cycling Without Age is a global, volunteer-led movement that provides free, slow-paced trishaw bike rides to older adults and those with limited mobility.

Two electric-assisted Triobike taxis funded by Kerry Recreation & Sports Partnership and provided to both facilities to ensure clients could regain the experience of being out on a bike in their local community.

The Triobike taxi is designed for comfort and accessibility, featuring a powerful motor to assist the volunteer ‘pilot’ and a retractable footrest for easy entry. Each bike can carry two passengers, offering a social and immersive outdoor experience at a relaxed pace.

“We hope those using the bikes will truly enjoy this new cycling experience as they get to be out and about in their communities,” said Maeve Ryan, Community Sports Development Officer.

“This initiative plays a pivotal role in keeping people active and socially engaged, fostering connection and reducing social isolation.”

The service will be supported and delivered by a dedicated team of local volunteer cycling pilots.

Following specialised training, volunteers coordinate through community networks to provide scheduled trips along scenic and pre-determined routes in both Dingle and Castleisland.

Both locations are seeking volunteer pilots. No cycling expertise is required, as full training will be given on the following dates:

• Castleisland: Friday, 12th of June. Time: 2:00-4:00pm
To book your place, contact Castleisland Daycare Centre at 066 714 3865 or email info@castleislanddaycare.com

• Dingle: Saturday, 13th of June. Time: 11:00-1:00pm
To book your place, contact Tom Leonard 087 235 5268 or tomc.leonard@yahoo.ie.
