KERRY County Council has announced the appointment of a multidisciplinary design team for the Ashe Memorial Hall regeneration project.

Dublin-based Shaffrey Architects will form part of the highly specialised team led by Tralee-based engineering firm Malachy Walsh Partners (MWP) and who are charged with bringing the project from concept to delivery.

The restoration and enhancement of the building will restore the historic Ashe Memorial Hall and create improved gallery spaces, a redesigned museum and a new roof garden as well as other structural improvements.

MWP previously delivered a series of projects at the site over the years including the development of the Museum Main Gallery and the Medieval Experience in the early 1990s.

MWP and Shaffrey Architects have a history of successful collaboration on major conservation projects, including work at Ardfert Cathedral and Garnish Island.

The project is a conservation-centred restoration and adaptive reuse of the Ashe Memorial Hall building, honouring its immense historical value while reimagining its purpose for a vibrant, inclusive and sustainable future.

The works will safeguard the integrity of the building while transforming it into a climate-resilient, universally accessible asset in the heart of the town, that aligns with the core principles of sustainability and inclusive design.

The project is funded through THRIVE – the Town Centre First Heritage Revival Scheme which awarded €7 million in funding to the Ashe Memorial Fall in September 2025.

This regeneration programme is co-funded by the EU and Government of Ireland through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
