THE team at Run The Kingdom (RTK) have announced that they will be presenting the ‘Eric Leahy Memorial Shield’ at the Tralee 100k Ultra Marathon this weekend.
The shield will be awarded to the first male and female home in honour of Eric, who sadly passed away back in April.
Eric was an avid member of the local Born To Run Marathon Club for well over a year and took part in a number of races with the club, including the Rose of Tralee 10k and the Tralee International Half Marathon back in March.
“He was a member of our ‘Born to Run’ club and he was very popular with everybody in there,” said Marcus Howlett speaking to TraleeToday.ie .
“It’s a good way of remembering him and I think it shows the potential in people and what you can achieve through running. The whole spirit of the [upcoming] ultra marathon is built around this I feel – this idea of incorporating the benefits of running for mental health,” he continued.
“It will be an annual presentation and it will be presented to the first male and female home and their names will be inscribed on it,” he said.
