THE first ever People of UHK Awards were held on Monday, July 4 in the Pavilion Room of Ballygarry Estate.

The People of UHK Awards celebrated a selection of individuals and teams who go the extra mile and make a real difference to patients, families, and colleagues.

They focus on showing appreciation to those who strive to put the care of patients and their families first, as well as those who support the overall team in UHK.

Members of staff from any department or service within UHK were eligible to be nominated for an award.

In light of the concern over Covid-19 numbers currently, the event was very much scaled back to recipients only for this year, however Management at UHK have expressed the desire to host an annual awards event to recognise the considerable effort and dedication shown by the people who work in UHK.

Along with a number of awards nominated by members of staff within the hospital, in recognition of the close relationship with the community, patients and their families were invited to nominate a member of staff who excelled in the care they gave to a patient.

Having received hundreds of nominations from members of the public and the team within UHK, judges selected winners from a shortlist.

The judges for the event included Mary Bonn; a UHK Volunteer, David Clifford; Kerry footballer, Gwen Ryan; Senior HR SSWHG, Fearghal Grimes; Senior Management UHK and Lorraine Griffin; UHK Service User.
