According the people at the Met Office, summer is about to arrive later this weekend…well, in the sense that the rain will be warmer than it has been. Anyway, if we do get some sunshine, there’s no excuse for staying indoors. Here’s a few things you might get up to…
Saturday
1. Go for a cycle for a great cause…
The Fenit Lifeboat Cycle is a fantastic way to stay active and help out the RNLI in Fenit.
The cycle will start at O’Donnell’s Bar & Restaurant in Mounthawk at 10.30am (registration 9.15am to 10.15am), travel to Farranfore, Castleisland and finish up back at O’Donnell’s where refreshments will be provided.
The distance is 50km and minimum entry fee is €30.

2. Support your countymen…
The Kerry hurlers are flying at the moment and definitely deserve the support of the public.
They take on Westmeath at Austin Stack Park at 3pm in Round 2 of the Round Robin of the Leinster Championship and hopes are high they’ll make it two wins in a row in the competition. Adults are €10.00 with Juvenile (Under 16 Years of Age): Free of Charge.
3. Looking forward to the Fleadh…
The launch of the Fleadh Cheoil Chiarraí takes place in the Rose Hotel at 8pm where organisers will look forward to five days of fantastic entertainment in the county capital.
The town will see a great economic boost with hundreds of people visiting the town between May 18 to May 22 and you can check out the full programme of events including the competitions, street entertainment and singing clubs by clicking here.
Sunday
4. The fun of the fair…
There’s only one place to be on Sunday for fantastic family entertainment. The 67th Kingdom County Fair has a fancy dress competition for kids, kids fashion show, live music, baby show, bouncy castles, busking competition, face painting and hair braiding, an Irish dancing display, tug-o-war, sheaf tossing among many other activities.
A fun dog show is also a highlight and entries are taken on the day. There will also be a Donkey Derby and terrier racing. The County Fair will also select their Rose on the day who will go forward to represent them on May 20 at the Kerry Rose selection night in Ballyroe Heights Hotel. Admission is €10 for adults, children go in free.
5. Get out and enjoy the sunshine…
They seem to change their minds by the minute, but Met Eireann reckon Sunday will see a lot of dry spells down here with temperatures hitting 20 degrees. It’s a bit early (and risky) for the barbecue, but the beach/park/beer garden beckons. Enjoy it while it lasts!
