FIVE young swimmers from Ballybunion Swim Club have presented a cheque for €8,000 to Kerry Hospice / Palliative Care, following a half-marathon swim earlier this summer.

Cathal Slattery, Ewan Kennelly, Noah Connolly, Adam Burn and JJ Liston, took on the challenge of swimming 21.1 kilometres each at Ballybunion Leisure Centre on June 14th, all in aid of the charity.

What began as an ambitious challenge quickly became a tremendous community fundraising effort, with the boys now delighted to have raised €8,000 for a cause that is very close to their hearts.

The boys would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported their fundraising in any way, whether through sponsorship, donations, encouragement or by helping them prepare for the challenge.

A special word of thanks also goes to their Ballybunion Swim Club coaches, Dermot and Eric, for their encouragement, guidance and support throughout their training and in the lead-up to the challenge.

They also expressed their gratitude to Ballybunion Leisure Centre for generously providing the pool and supporting the event.

The funds raised will go towards the development of five new bedrooms at the Palliative Care Unit in Tralee, helping to provide comfort, dignity and support to patients and their families at an incredibly difficult time.
