A LOCAL woman is encouraging people to get involved in the final 5K/10K road race of the year on New Years Eve in Tralee.

Michelle Greaney of Optimal Fitness presents her first 5k and 10k event starting from The Rose Hotel at 11am on Sunday, December 31 and she is hoping runners of all abilities will get together for a final run of the year and in doing so raise vital funds for the Kerry Cork Health Link Bus.

The 5k runners take off from The Rose Hotel, they then head to the Marina and run along the canal walkway, up to the bridge at the top of Hare Street which they cross and run back to The Rose Hotel.

There will be medals for all participants and a cash prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd overall in both men’s and women’s events.

There will also be a trophy for 1st, 2nd and 3rd male and female in both events, protein pack vouchers from local butchers, a prize for 1st in each masters category in the 10k, a prize for 1st junior male and female in both events and a prize for 1st Optimal Fitness member home in both events.

This is a chip timed event and the price is 5k – €10 and 10k – €20. Registration is available on the morning of the race from 09.30am – 10.30am.

Michelle thanked The Rose Hotel, Aspen Grove, Kellihers Garage, Mark Rael Electrical, Lee Strand and Distace coach John Starrett for sponsoring the event.
