Senior Div 1 County League Rd 2

Kerins O Rahillys 3-11  Legion 0-11
The visit of Legion on Sunday afternoon saw us gain our first win of the season .
Legion took an early lead scoring three unanswered points as they started the brighter.
We then got our first score of the game with a close in free from Jack Savage.
We then took control of the midfield battle with Gavin O Brien, Sean Walsh and Shane Brosnan winning a lot of primary possession.
We struck for our opening goal following a speculative ball into the the danger zone which was fielded brilliantly by Jack Savage , who laid  it off to younger brother Gearoid who finished well to the bottom left corner.
This was followed soon after by a Jack Savage pointed free.
We then suffered a big loss when Gavin O Brien had to be replaced having suffered a serious looking facial injury.
However the team responded well and added further frees from the trusty boot of Jack Savage to leave the half time score 1-5 to -06 in favour of the blues.
In the second half both teams traded points , but we were able to maintain our lead to bring us up to the second half water break.
On resumption a well worked moved saw the hard working Sean Walsh kick over a great score from out near the left sideline.
Our dominance was then rewarded when another blistering attack resulted in our second goal , when Barry John Keane chipped the ball to the top corner of the Legion net with ten minutes remaining. This to put us up by seven.
Shortly after Shane McElligott finished to the net after a good move involving Barry John Keane , Gearoid Dillane and Jack Savage .
This was to be final score of the game.
Players and management will be well pleased with the performance as the teams work rate was particularly impressive.
In defence Donagh Buckley, Ross O Callaghan and Patrick Begley were very solid in the full back line.
Gavin O Brien (until injury) and Sean Walsh handled a lot of ball around the middle.
Up front Barry John Keane, Gearoid Dillane and Gearoid Savage were lively all afternoon. Jack Savage at full forward again proved to be a handful for the Legion defence as he led the attack brilliantly and produced another very impressive performance for his team.
All in the club would like wish Gavin O Brien a speedy recovery as he looks to be facing a lengthy time on the sidelines following his unfortunate injury .

Minor County League Division 1
Kerins O Rahillys 1-15. Kilcummin 1-14
The visitors took the lead early with two quick  points, we replied with two well worked scores from Darragh O Connor and a close in free from the same player following a driving run from Ben O Brien.
Kilcummin then kicked three more points to stretch their lead again. A point from play from Gearoid Meehan left the minimum between the sides at the water break.
On resumption Kilcummin hit a purple patch hitting 1-4 without reply during a period when we struggled hugely with gaining possession from a number of poor restarts.
However we rallied again with 2 points late in the half from Sean Healy to make the score at the break 1-10 to -08 to the visitors.
The second half saw us claw back three unanswered points (Darragh O Connor 2) and the impressive Jake Foley with a score following a run through the centre.
Following the second half waterbreak we squandered a few storable chances to further narrow the gap, but to the players credit they never stopped battling and kept in touch right till the end.
With time almost up Ben Hanafan was brought down inside the large parallelogram after a great run with the referee having no hesitation in blowing the whistle for a penalty.
The resultant spot kick was expertly despatched by the same player who slotted low to the goalkeepers right.
This put us a point ahead with only a minute remaining.
We held out following a final attack from the Kilcummin side for a hard earned win.
Best on the evening were Eric McMahon , Ben Hanafin and Jake Foley in defence, Danny Hennessey and  Ben O Brien battled hard at midfield with the later fetching a lot of kick outs. Up front , Darragh O Connor was our scorer in chief and was our main danger all through, Sean Healy and Thomas Kennedy also impressed particularly in the second half.
Well done to players and management.
