Kerry Camino To Take Place Over May Bank Holiday Weekend

IT’S that time of the year again as people prepare to walk in the footsteps of St. Brendan along the Dingle Way for the Kerry Camino over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

Over three days, walkers pass through rugged mountaineous and coastal scenery, through towns and villages, with stations and rest benches along the way where logbooks can be stamped.

On reaching the final destination at the Spanish built Church of St. James in Dingle pilgrims will receive the  Kerry Camino ‘Certificate of Completion.’

In times past, Kerry pilgrims set off for La Coruna in Northern Spain from St. James Church in Dingle, others from St. James Gate in Dublin and other locations.

Whether you come on a pilgrimage of personal faith or renewal, or for the fun and health benefits of a good walk, the organisers will welcome you just as St. Brendan welcomed the converts he made while on his crusades.

.

The launch of Kerry Camino was in June 2012  and numbers have been increasing steadily since then, to present day numbers of 250 and more.

The guided walk is held annually over 3 days of the May Bank Holiday Weekend, this year Friday 1st May (Tralee to Camp), Saturday 2nd May (Camp to Annascaul) and Sunday 3rd May (Annascaul to Dingle.)

.

A certain level of fitness is required for this 3-day event, with appropriate footwear, clothing, snacks and drinks.  Each day’s walking is approx. 5-7 hours.  Transport and luggage transfer is provided if required by participants.

There will be refreshments and entertainment for the group at the end of each day’s walking at the Railway Tavern in Camp; Hanafin’s Bar in Annascaul and Paul Geaney’s pub in Dingle.
