KERRY Education and Training Board has launched a new ethos framework locally across their 11 Schools in Kerry.

Kerry ETB is one of 16 ETBs taking part in the national launch this week. Kerry ETB schools are state, co-educational, multi-denominational schools underpinned by the core values of excellence in education, care, equality, community and respect.

The ETBI Patrons’ Framework on Ethos, developed by Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) and the Centre for Evaluation, Quality and Inspection at Dublin City University (DCU), will support all Kerry ETB schools in living out their ethos. For more on the framework, click here.

The framework applies to the three Community National Schools and eight Post-Primary schools in Kerry under the patronage of Kerry ETB.

Speaking at the national launch held in Naas launch, Ann O’Dwyer, Director of Schools Youth and Music at Kerry ETB, said; “We welcome the launch of the ETBI Patrons’ Framework on Ethos, which will unite our schools through Kerry with our school communities across the wider ETB network, and ensure that we achieve the highest standard of education for all our students in an inclusive environment.

“This framework recognises our shared values under the ETB umbrella and acknowledges the standards of good practice our schools already embody. It will also allow us to reflect on areas with potential for improved or new practices within our school community.”

An Ethos Coordinator has been appointed in each of the ETB schools. These coordinators will be involved in the implementation and further development of the framework.

Speaking about the impact of the Ethos Framework, Kerry ETB’s Ethos Coordinator, Pat O’Sullivan, stated; “This Framework is the culmination of ten years of extensive national consultation, research and visionary policymaking. It articulates for the first time what it means to be an ETB school. Today is a historic day for the ETB school community.”
