Mike O’Halloran reports on the Kerry SHC game last night at Austin Stack Park…

Kilmoyley Hurling Club 2-15

Lixnaw GAA 0-18

How Lixnaw must regret the ten plus wides the had in the first half, when they were shocked by a Kilmoyley goal almost at the death. That goal coming from Jevon Carey who had come on as a sub a few minutes earlier.

The game started with a point from Ivan Conway for Lixnaw within a minute while Bobby O’Connor replied for Kilmoyley. The next three points came for Lixnaw Ivan Conway, Eoghan Stack and Rick Heffernan converting.

Robert Collins pointed a free, Jordan Brick was clean through on goal but without his hurley he kicked the ball wide.

Ricky Heffernan, who was magnificent all night, pointed a free and Keltyn Molly did the same.
Lixnaw led seven points to four on 23 minutes, but three minutes later the sides were level thanks to a Robert Collins goal after he was set up by the lively Philip Maunsell.

The last two scores of the first half were for Lixnaw and they led nine points to 1-4. Lixnaw must have felt confident in the dressing room as they were taking the game to Kilmoyley with their direct brand of play.

They must have felt if they tidied up their shooting they were on the way to a win.

However, Kilmoyley were level 1-06 to 0-09 within three minutes of the restart.

Ricky and Mikey Kelleher added two for Lixnaw and by the 44th minute the sides were level again 1-10 to 0-13 when Daire Nolan drove over from distance.

By the 55th minute, Ricky had put Lixnaw ahead 0-17 to 1-13 and a minute later Jamie Galvin must have thought he had set Lixnaw on their way when he pointed.

Three minutes later came the telling goal for Kilmoyley when Jevon Carey found space on the right he bore down on goal and blasted to the net.

Kilmoyley added two more before the final whistle and they march on.

Lixnaw were very impressive and were most unlucky not to take the spoils, they will have learned from this defeat and welcomed back Shane Conway for fifteen minutes, he seemed to be moving okay and scored two points.

Wides and a little bit of over elaboration by a forward or two cost them the game.

As for Kilmoyley, they overcame the worry of one of their player’s brother’s health issue and I send my best wishes to him for a good recovery.

Kilmoyley are definitely contenders for honours having come through two tight games, with Dougie Fitzell making an appearance tonight, but they will sweat on the health of James Godley.

Final score Lixnaw 0-18 Kilmoyley 2-15.
