Minister Foley Announces €1.9m In Grants For Kerry Schools

MINISTER for Education Norma Foley TD has today announced €1.9 million in minor works grants for primary and post-primary schools in Kerry to be paid in early December, 2020.

The €1.9 million payments involve an additional €1m funding for Covid-19 related Minor Works at post-primary level and bringing forward from 2021 the standard €900,000 minor works grant at primary level.

The Department’s capital budget was increased in 2020 to facilitate the payment of these grants in December 2020.

Minister Foley said; “The payment of the Minor Works Grant is important for any school and this is particularly true of this year, due to the unprecedented COVID-19 situation. The payment of these grants at this stage gives schools a good lead-in period for planning and undertaking works in 2021.”

The minor works grant funding provides flexibility at local level to assist schools to manage in the Covid environment and to put more sustainable arrangements in place. For example, schools may use this funding to enhance ventilation, purchase furniture or adapt toilet areas.”

Minister Foley concluded; “This funding will be an invaluable resource to schools, as they deal with the impact of Covid-19.”
