Senior Men’s Co. League Div. 3: Following on from their disappointing result away to Churchill last weekend our Senior men got their county league promotion bid back on track yesterday with a merited 1-17 to 0-14 win over Ballydonoghue in Killeen. Once again conditions were difficult with wind & rain at times.
Ballydonoghue played with the elements in the first half and took an early lead with a point from their full-forward. It was to be the only time they led in the game.
Fergal Barry equalised immediately before Jack Bourke raced through for the only goal of the game. Points then from Liam Cooper (free), Kieran O’Donovan, Dan Goggin (2), Andrew Barry & Tadgh Reen in a 15-minute spell gave our lads a 1-7 to 0-3 lead by the 20th minute.
Ballydonoghue did add 2 late points before the break from a free and a 45 but they were left to rue a couple of unsuccessful 2-point efforts.
The visitors started the second half in determined fashion and hit a 2-pointer plus a point from play to reduce the margin to just 2 points. But that was as close as they got. Mark Lynch steadied the ship with a point before a 2-pointer from Liam Cooper stretched the margin back out to 5 again.
Two Ballydonoghue frees were cancelled out by a super 2-point effort from Conor Lucey before Ballydonoghue kicked another point.
The teams traded points from frees, ours from Liam Cooper, to leave 4 between the teams with 15 minutes remaining. Then Ruairí Ó hAiniféin got his name on the scoresheet before Ballydonoghue added another point from a free.
In the final few minutes further points from Dan Goggin, Sean O’Connor and Jack Bourke sealed a well deserved win for Na Gaeil. Final score Na Gaeil 1-17, Ballydonoghue 0-14.
Senior Men’s Co. League Div. 7A (Phase 2): Our senior B team will be away to Ballymac B next Friday at 7pm.
Senior Ladies Development League: Our senior B team will be away to Moyvane/Clounmacon next Friday night. Throw-in in Knockanure will be 7.30pm.
Fé 8 Buachaillí: Our U8 boys travelled to Barraduff last Tuesday evening. Well done lads, great performances. Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents for travelling. Our next Go-Game is at home against Kerins O Rahillys tonight (Monday) at 6:30pm.
Fé 12 Cailiní: Well done to our U12 girls who played Cromane last Wednesday night in Killeen. In horrendous conditions the girls battled hard and created some lovely scores. Thanks to Cromane LGFA for a sporting game, Fionán Collins our referee and all the supporters on the sideline! Na Gaeil Abú!
Fé 14 Cailiní: Well done to our girls on their win over Kerins O’Rahillys last night.
Kerry LGFA: Congratulations to the Kerry Ladies team & management on their win over Tipperary yesterday. Next Saturday they will be away to Kildare in Round 2.
