Swimming: Congratulations to Luke O’Donoghue, son of Barry & Leza, who had a senior international debut to remember, setting lifetime bests on two consecutive occasions in the 100m Backstroke (S9) at the Para Swimming European Championships in Turkey over the weekend.
After lowering his personal best in the heats to secure a place in the final, the Na Gaeil man went even quicker in the evening session, touching the wall in 1:08.42 to finish eighth overall.
Recycling: A huge thank you to Louis Byrne for allowing Na Gaeil to benefit from the Re-Turn machine at his Spar shop in Oakpark. Bring your empty bottles and cans along to the shop and select the “Donate to Na Gaeil GAA” option at the machine.

Hospice Coffee Morning: A coffee morning/bake sale in aid of Kerry Hospice will be held in the clubhouse on Sunday the 20th September from 10am to 12.30pm. This has been a great fundraiser for many years now & we hope 2026 won’t disappoint! Put the date in your diary & come along for a cuppa, a chat, a catch up with friends, & an opportunity to buy some home baked treats.
Fé 6 Buachaillí agus Cailiní: Na Gaeil faoi 6. Absolutely beautiful morning yesterday for a kick around for the 6s. Passing, ball control and a few fun games with the coaches delighted everyone on a brilliant morning for football. Again many thanks to parents for making it a great day. Na Gaeil Abú.
Fé 8 Buachaillí: Na Gaeil postponed their U8s football blitz last Saturday but it has been re-fixed for next Saturday the 19th. Teams from Ardfert, Austin Stacks, Ballymacelligott, Churchill, John Mitchels and Spa will take part.
Fé 10 Buachaillí: Our U10s played 3 games away against Kilcummin last Wednesday evening. The lads played superb football with a great range of hand passing and kicking. This was definitely one of their best performances of the year. Well done to them all. Many thanks to the coaches and parents who travelled to support our lads.
Senior Ladies Co. Championship: Good luck to our senior ladies who will play Castleisland Desmonds in the Bon Secours County Championship semi-final next Sunday 20th at 12pm in Castleisland.
Senior Mens Club Championship: Na Gaeil went into yesterday’s senior club championship semi-final against Dr Crokes as big underdogs yet they went toe to toe with the current champions for 60 incredible minutes, then into extra time and eventually only lost out in a soccer-style penalty shootout.
Na Gaeil got off to a perfect start when Darragh Reen intercepted a Crokes kickout and fed Dan Goggin who goaled. A point from Diarmuid O’Connor and a 2-pointer from Liam Cooper stretched Na Gaeil ahead 1-3 to 0-2 after just 7 minutes. A combination of 4 points for Dr Crokes and a flurry of poor Na Gaeil wides levelled matters by the 11th minute.
The intensity continued, resulting in a series of turnovers by both teams as each went on to register just 2 points before the break, ours from Dan Goggin and Darragh Reen, to leave the halftime score Na Gaeil 1-5, Dr Crokes 0-8. After the break Crokes edged ahead by 1, Jack Doyle levelled.
Then 3 unanswered points from Crokes and for a moment it looked like they might pull away. But then Oisín Maunsell showed great composure to find the Crokes net through a sea of bodies and the game was level again.
A Liam Cooper free put Na Gaeil ahead before the Killarney side kicked the next 3 to lead by 2 around the 18 minute mark (the match clock had stopped in the 3rd minute).
The game continued to see-saw. A point from Stefan was cancelled out by a Crokes free, Fergal Barry got a point and then Darragh Carmody kicked a 2-pointer to put Na Gaeil ahead by the minimum.
Jack Bourke doubled the lead with a point but the drama didn’t end there. Crokes won their own kickout and they launched the ball towards the Na Gaeil posts. It seemed to deceive everyone and bounced over the bar for a 2-point score to level the game. Crokes has a last gasp effort to win the game but they pulled it wide.
On to extra time. Again it was end-to-end with the lead changing hands multiple times. Na Gaeil were leading by 1 when Oisín Maunsell was sent off and a minute later Crokes scored a vital goal when it appeared that a Na Gaeil player had been fouled out the field.
A 2-point free from Darragh Carmody tied up the match once more. Dr. Crokes enjoyed a purple patch at the start of the 2nd half of extra time and twice went 4 points up.
But our lads never dropped their heads. Brilliant 2-pointers from Peter and Jack Doyle got us back level and that’s how it ended, Na Gaeil 2-22, Dr. Crokes 1-25.
The game then was decided on penalties and despite both Diarmuid O’Connor and Darragh Carmody converting with aplomb it was Crokes who edged it 4-2 to seal their place in next weekend’s final.
Senior Men’s Barrett Cup: Tonight (Monday) Na Gaeil B will play Beaufort B in the Barrett Cup quarter-final. Throw in in Killeen will be 6pm.
