Senior Men: Round 2 of Club Championship, played in Dingle, Saturday evening last. Final score Dingle 1–17 (4 Geaneys 1–15), Na Gaeil 0–06.
Give us the Geaneys, or at least drop them, and we will play again. Played in a very cold breeze we never really got to grips with a physically stronger Dingle outfit that were much more clinical in their finishing and stronger in the back.
We won the throw in per Diarmuid and Morgan but try as we could we were unable to force any gaps in which to attempt a score.
Our forwards were retaining the ball and had some good movement outside the D that included Goggin, Devine, Sean Barrett, Diarmuid and Andrew. We tried a shot after 3 minutes that was forced wide by some excellent defending.
We won the kickout but again we were kept at bay, outside the D, resulting in another wide after 4 minutes. Again, we had the ball for long periods but finished with a wide on 6 minutes after some good defending by stronger backs.
We forced a 45 after 10 minutes but dropped the effort short. For those 10 minutes we played very well all over the field with centre field sending in some great ball which was met by a rock-solid defence.
Our defence played excellently with the result that Dingle had no clear shot at goal. On the 12th minute Conor Geaney pointed a free. We replied with a wide on 13. From there to half time Dingle scored 1–07 to 0–02 for us.
Dara Devine pointed a free on 24, the only scorable free that a very disciplined Dingle gave away, and Diarmuid got a fine point from play just before half time. Half time Dingle 1–08, Na Gaeil 0–02.
Playing with the slight breeze we managed to get off a few shots in the second half. Dara Devine got a point from play after some good passing with the final pass coming from Morgan. Jack Bourke got a point on 3 minutes following a good pass from Peter Doyle. Dara Devine scored from a free on 13 minutes.
Kieran got our final score on 23 following some good play by Jack Doyle. Dingle carried on as in the first half leaving the final score Dingle 1–17, Na Gaeil 0–06. We, once again, played with a very depleted side with many of our regular seniors away for various reasons.
We can take heart from the fact that the whole panel gave 100% and there were a lot of positives for the management to work on.
Referee Brendan Griffin and his team were invisible for the hour. No drama. Good job.
Round 3 will see us host Dr. Crokes next Saturday at 4pm.
Senior Ladies: Unfortunately last Monday our senior ladies lost to Scartaglen in Round 3 of the County League.
