A CIRCULAR economy initiative, ‘ReLove Paint’, has been launched in Kerry this week.
Supported by Kerry County Council, the EPA, the Rediscovery Centre and the Paint Reuse Network, the initiative is being delivered by a social enterprise of the South Kerry Development Partnership.
Leftover water-based interior paint is being accepted at Kerry County Council’s Coolcaslagh Civic Amenity Site in Killarney for a nominal fee.
The paint will then be filtered, re-coloured and mixed into new, unique colours by the SKDP Social Enterprise.

The ‘ReLove Paint’ collaboration will provide affordable, high-quality paint in a great range of colours for reuse in Kerry communities. Not only will the project benefit the environment, but it will also deliver in terms of reduced costs for the community groups and individuals who use the paint.

Cathaoirleach of the Killarney Municipal District, Cllr John O’Donoghue, welcomed the initiative: “Many households have old, half-empty paint cans lying around in attics and sheds and this is a really simple way to get rid of them while benefitting the environment.”
Chief Executive of the South Kerry Development Partnership, Noel Spillane said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Kerry County Council on this new ‘Relove Paint initiative’.
The project will deliver significant environmental benefits by diverting unused paint from landfill and giving it a new lease of life. It will also provide community groups with access to affordable paint, while creating valuable employment opportunities within the local community.
We look forward to collecting unused paint from Coolcaslagh and preparing it for reuse, with the first paint expected to be available from October 2026.”
Paints will be available to purchase in due course from the South Kerry Development Partnership.
