THEY came from all over the country and far beyond to gather outside St John’s Church on Friday morning for the start of this year’s Kerry Camino.

Over 200 had registered to  take part in the annual event which will see them walk in the footsteps of St. Brendan along the Dingle Way over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

Walkers pass through rugged mountaineous and coastal scenery, through towns and villages, with stations and rest benches along the way where logbooks can be stamped.

On reaching the final destination at the Spanish built Church of St. James in Dingle pilgrims will receive the  Kerry Camino ‘Certificate of Completion.’

The sun was shining as they headed off this morning after a blessing and a briefing from Mike O’Donnell.

They head from Tralee to Camp on Friday, Camp to Annascaul on Saturday and Annascaul to Dingle on Sunday, with each day consisting of 5-7 hours of trekking.

Of course there’s  refreshments and entertainment for the group at the end of each day’s walking at the Railway Tavern in Camp; Hanafin’s Bar in Annascaul and Paul Geaney’s pub in Dingle to keep spirits up and rest the bodies. Scroll down for photos…
