ARDFERT was the venue for the St Brendan’s Board Championship final on Saturday and it was the home side who emerged triumphant over St Pat’s by a scoreline of 1-10 to 0-10.
Ardfert took full advantage of wind in the first half with Shane Griffin was in flying form helping them to a 0-7 t0 0-1 lead on the short whistle.
Both teams went in at the break with 13 men as David O’Callaghan and Kieran Hurley for St Pat’s and Daithi Griffin and Darren Dineen saw the line in a fiery opening 30 minutes.
That six point lead proved too much to bridge for the Blennerville side, despite scoring three points in a row on the resumption.
However, when captain Ardfert captain Mike Moloney slotted home a penalty midway through the half, the home side went seven points up and it proved too big a lead to relinquish.
St Pat’s got a few late scores to close the gap, but Ardfert did enough to claim the silverware. Chairman of the St Brendan’s Board, Liam Sayers, presented Mike Moloney with the trophy, while Shane Griffin won man of the match. Scroll down for photos…
