THE Tralee Omniplex was the venue on Friday afternoon for the 6th annual Donal Walsh Live Life Secondary School and Adult Film Awards.

This year saw the competition screen the shortlisted movies at the IMax Cinema and the experience was magical according to organiser, Mary Lucey.

With an audience of 250 from schools in Kerry and far beyond, guests viewed shortlisted films from those entered from all over Ireland.

The theme “It All Works Out” was certainly evident in all of the winning films in both categories and an Ardfert man was deemed the winner of the adult category.

Hugh Maguire won for his short ‘Bog Chick’ (watch it here). In second place was Alina Farcas and third was Nathan Hackett.

A Tralee school came third in the secondary school category. An entry from CBS The Green came third (see it here) behind Loreto Convent Dublin in second and Nenagh CBS in first.

Entertainment was provided by KCFE music students and an original song composed for the Live Life competition was performed by CBS The Green.

This year’s event was organised by KCFE Principal Mary Lucey with the help of the KCFE staff and student groups.

The Walsh family were all on hand on the day to meet and speak to all the filmmakers, while the main sponsor, the Bon Secours Hospital’s Hilary Fitzgerald, and judge, Paul Ruane, Midpoint Creative,  announced the winners and presented the trophies.

Two new sponsors to come on board this year were the Tralee Omniplex and Ray Stack Event Productions.

It certainly was an amazing experience for these young and not so young filmmakers to see their films screened on the big screen.

Entries for this competition are increasing substantially year on year and the event continues to remain a highlight in Tralee’s calendar of events. Mary Lucey thanked all for their continuous support and work with the Competition. Scroll down for photos…
